Layla Walker POV

"Layla? Layla? Layla?!, Sienna my best friend of three years called.

She had a caramel complexion with long curly hair and stood about 5'6 with a curvy shape. She was the blunt and sassy type but sweet when she wanted to be. She was my loyal ride or die, my sister.

"Huh? Sorry, I must've-"

"Been in la-la land again, yeah girl you were. I've been calling you for the last five minutes", Sienna stated in an annoyed tone.

"My bad girl, what is it that you needed", I asked.

"The presentation is starting soon, are you ready?", she questioned.

"Um yeah just give me a sec to pull myself together, I'm going to run to the bathroom real quick", I called as I quickly walked down the hall.

Layla POV Continued...

So you're probably wondering what has happened in the last few years.

Well for starters, after that night, I moved to Atlanta. I needed a fresh start, away from my old neighborhood, from my egg and sperm donors, and most importantly, away from the bad memories.

The fact that I was already accepted to Emory made my decision to relocate here easy.

As you may have noticed, I changed my name. I needed a new identity, after committing you know what, I couldn't walk around as a fugitive with the same name.

Not that the police are looking for me anyway. I doubt they care about the latest instance of black on black crime in the heights.

The cops back where I'm from are a bunch of corrupt bastards who do everything but protect and serve, at least that's true for folks in my neighborhood.

Anyways, you can never be too careful so I decided to change my name. I am no longer Angelina Celeste Howard, but Layla Brielle Walker.

I didn't change my name just for legal reasons though. I didn't want to be Angel anymore.
