Chp 50: Thantophobia

~Flashback~
My fingers danced around in my purse looking for my phone while my eyes remained glued on the road. Every couple of seconds I would glance over before they were right back on the road. My heart raced as My eyes struggled to make out the road due to the lack of lamp post and the roaring of the storm was making it that more difficult.

The only light for miles was the led lights on my car that lit up a path that made it suitable to drive and the lighting that flashed across the sky five minutes between the other.

Finally when My hand made contact with my phone I pulled it out in a rush knocking my purse and the rest of my belonging to the floor. I struggled to type out the numbers due to my hand shaking nonstop. But eventually was able to punch in Celeste's number. The phone rung for what felt like forever spiking my anxiety and making my mind rush.

I needed her more than ever right now. I had no place to go and she was my only light in the lonely town I moved to away from the rest of my family.

Finally her line picked up making me release a breath I didn't realize I was holding. "Hello?Patience? What's going on?" Her voice brought a wave of comfort to my chest and a wave of tears to my eyes. I bit my lip to keep a sob from escaping as my voice broke "C-Celeste I need you"

"Oh My god what happened!!!? Are you okay" Celeste voice immediately went into a panic.

"H-He almost hurt me and Jacob. Celeste I can't go back. Oh god he almost killed us" I choked out a sob as tears coated both of my cheeks. My breathing came out chobby and rushed.

"I'm gonna kill that bastard. Are you both okay? Do I need to call the cops?"

"No I drove away I don't know where to go. Celeste I need you here" I sobbed as I held my stomach feeling the movement of my baby bringing me relief that he was okay.

"Fuck. Patience where are you right now? Are you driving? You don't need to be on the road right now not in the condition your in. your hyperventilating. Pull over now!" Celeste screeched.

"It's fine I'm coming to a red light now" I croaked wiping my eyes free from tears. As I said I emerged from the trail of the mountain to the first post lamp and stop light near the city.

"Then go to my house I have a spare key for you to get in but I'm sorry I'm not in town right now I won't be back for a week." I could hear her curse on the other end and the strain in her voice as she struggled to remain strong.

"Patience I have to go I'm gonna try to get the first flight back. Just please keep me updated and let me know when you're safe" As much as I didn't want her to go I sucked it up.

"Okay, Okay"I agreed before I hung up. I took a couple of deep breaths to slow my breathing and as the rain started to die down it helped. I looked outside to the lonely night and felt regret and sadness break my heart making my lip tremble but the kicks in my stomach reminded me that I wasn't alone.

"Don't worry mommy's gonna make sure that you're well taken care of. I promise" I rubbed along to his kicks. I looked up just as the light turned green. I pulled off much slower compared to how fast I was going to get down the mountain.

As I continued down the dark and empty streets My eyes cringed at the sudden flicker of bright lights coming from the car a few miles ahead of me. As the car came closer my eyes were practically at a squint trying to blur out the bright headlights.

Until my eyes shot back open once I realized the car was a truck speeding in the rain and just so happened it was on my side of the road. I could feel my body freeze and my heart race. As I thought I was dreaming but the blaring horn from the truck reminded me this was reality.
