"The name's Hugh. I'm from Aspertia. Cheren told me about his first gym challenger before. You must be that challenger, yeah?" Hugh asked as he approached Keaton while looking at the others. "I'm a Pokémon Trainer, just like you, and everyone else here. I'm here to become stronger so I can find a certain someone and what's a better way to do so than battling guys who also want to get stronger?" Hugh asked rhetorically.

Keaton closed his eyes and responded with a sigh. "I'm not one to turn down a fight so I'll take you on. Shade could use a good warm-up anyway," Keaton claimed as Shade snickered softly and nodded her head; she decided not to talk since explaining everything to a stranger would be too much work for her, and the author of this story.

"Oh, hell no!" Cameron quickly butted into the conversation and said, "Riolu and I have been dying to battle! After seeing Keaton and Jolyne's battle, we NEED to see what we can do against him and his Zorua!" He exclaimed and pointed at Keaton; Riolu mimicked his trainer's actions but was pointing at Shade instead.

Benga added, "Man, I'm tryna battle too! Gible and I won't get any better if we're just watching everyone go at it!" He grinned confidently while his shiny Gible sat on his head.

"It wouldn't make sense to do a Multi Battle then. Everyone wants to fight Keaton in some way," Iris murmured while rubbing her chin. With all this battling, she was starting to become itchy for a battle of her own; but not with these guys. She'd crush them, or that's what she believed. "Oh! Alder! Maybe they can do that new form of battling invented in Alola! You know? The battling the Masked Royal made super famous! These kids could have a Battle Royal!" She told Alder with a gleam of excitement in her eyes.

"Battle Royal...?" All the trainers asked in unison, turning their heads to Iris as Alder walked over and let out a chuckle. He always found joy in seeing trainers express their love for battling. He felt like moments like these made Pokémon and people form stronger bonds.

"Battle Royal! Let me explain: A Battle Royal involves four Trainers battling each other at the same time. The odd format is based on the battles that the four guardian deities of Alola take part in to decide who is the strongest of them all," Alder then held up three fingers and continued explaining the rules. "Each trainer typically has three Pokémon and when one of them loses all three, the battle ends. Since you all have three, whoever loses a Pokémon first will end the match.

"Whaddya say? Wanna give it a try?" Iris asked as she crossed her arms and grinned in excitement at the four trainers.

"Sure, if it means I can get stronger, I'll show these chums what I'm made of," Hugh claimed while pulling out one of his Poké Balls from his bag. "I'll show them how far I can go."

Cameron grinned widely. "If it means Keaton will put some respect on my name then hell yeah! Riolu can take on anyone!" He chimed as Riolu was fired up, constantly punching the air to warm up for the upcoming battle.
