Chapter 39

KASHVI'S POV

When I saw Adarsh holding that gun after those gunshots, something in me just broke. I trusted him that he would not put his life in danger. He promised.

We sat beside each other on the hospital benches. Not sure who will address the elephant in the room.

"I know you are not happy"

He said.

"Not happy? I am mad Adarsh"

I replied. He looked at me. I looked at him. That was exact conversation we had when I got him out of jail and he lashed out at me...just vice versa.

"I did what I had to. He shot Gopinath. Almost killed him"

"Then you could have shot him in the leg!"

"That would never have been enough"

"Police would have caught him and he would have gone to jail"

"He was in jail before. He broke out."

Adarsh's voice raised. I could feel him getting angrier.

"Why are you so worked up about it?"

Adarsh was quite for a while but I maintain the eyecontact. He pulled out his phone and played a video.
It had Adarsh in jail. In those jail clothes. He looked young, distressed. He was sitting with a thin guy, eating. When all of a sudden a huge guy, stabbing the thin guy in his chest and killing him.
I flinch when I saw and Adarsh immediately put it away.

"What the fuc--"

"He killed my inmate because he sat on his spot for lunch...Gopinath asked me to kill him a year ago. I didn't because I promised you..."

"That's good! You are not a person who would and should go around killing people!"

"No, I had the chance to put him to justice. I didn't make good of it and that's what Gopinath is in ICU."

"Look if you are going be the Adarsh that you were 6 years ago--"

"Then you'd rather leave...right"

Adarsh completed my sentence. Yes I meant that but when he actually said it, it cut my heart.

"Got it Kashvi. Well....I have to give my statement to the police...so yeah see yaa"

He got up. I followed him because even I had to give the statement.

"Main Kashvi keliye wait kar raha tha Durga Pandal mein jab maine gunshot ki awaj suni. Jab main waha pohcha Officer Gopinath was shot and bleeding. When I got to him and supported his head...He took his gun and shot the criminal. Thats when Kashvi came"

Adarsh said

"Umm...I went to Durga pandal to meet Adarsh. I heard two gun shots so I rushed in the direction, Gopinath was holding the gun...He had shot the criminal and Adarsh was supporting his head and pressing his wound to stop the blood flow."

I told. Adarsh stayed with Gopinath and I went home. Adarsh didn't come home that night. I went to a grocery store next morning.

"Excuse me, do you have umm..nutella?"

"I am afraid I just took the last one"

A familiar voice said. I turned around. It was Shashank.

"Shashank!"

"In the flesh!"

We hugged and he patted my back asking me a bunch of questions.

"Chalo, bahar baat karte hai"
