Third person's pov

“Trying to find this?”

A melodic sound echoed in the isolated alley… and Kevin snapped his head towards the source of sound and instantly widened his eyes.

“Yeah.” He whispered and reached out to grab the keys but Mia fisted her hands trapping the keys inside with a mischievous smile.

Kevin frowned, “You dropped it on your chair. Lucky for you that I saw it.

“Thank you.” Kevin muttered.

“Actually I wanted to meet you alone.” Kevin's frown deepened.

Mia chuckled and took a packet out of her bag, which was the same one which Mia shoved inside her bag when she arrived at the cafe. She gestured to Kevin to take it.

“I wanted to give you this.” Mia uttered.

Kevin opened the packet and gasped.

It was paintbrushes of different numbers.

“You said you started painting right? So I got this for you.” Mia smiled.

“You went to the shop to buy this on your way here?” Kevin asked.

Mia nodded.

Kevin's gaze softened when he realised that Mia took a walk in this cold winter for him. He was never used to this kind of effort or affection.

“Why?” Kevin asked, eyes still glued to the packet in his hands.

“It’s just a gift.” Mia shrugged.

“But I didn't get you one.” Kevin exclaimed, now looking at Mia.

“You can give me one right now.” Mia shrugged again.

“What?”

“Hug me.” Mia uttered.

“Huh?” Kevin asked bewildered. Why does Mia want them to hug?

“You don't know how to hug, do you? It was your first hug right?” Mia asked.

Kevin's eyes widened dramatically wondering how the girl knew about this.

“And how'd you reach this conclusion?” Kevin asked.

“It was evident.” Mia uttered. Stepping forward making Kevin's stomach do multiple flips. She held her hands and rested them on her waist and Kevin shivered.

She tiptoed and hugged Kevin once again.

Her one hand rested on his shoulder and the other caressed his nape.

“Relax.” Mia whispered.

And Kevin relaxed. He felt his vision get blurry. He unknowingly craved this. For warmth. He needed someone to hold him… to embrace him when he didn't even have a warm blanket to give him warmth. His mother didn't care to give him and Kevin didn't dare to ask.

Kevin tightened his hold around the girl's waist and rested his chin on her shoulder. Inhaling the vanilla-strawberry scent that the girl radiated.

He nuzzled his face in the crook of her neck. After some minutes Mia pulled back.

“You needed a hug, didn't you?”

Kevin nodded like a lost puppy.

Mia chuckled, “I figured it out.”

“How?” Kevin asked.

“Kevin you know you've created a wall  around you, you thought it will protect you from getting hurt but it's a prison instead. Try to get out of it.” Mia whispered but it was still audible enough.
