Nothing happened for the next ten minutes. The wolf has started resting, but hasn't fallen asleep yet. Sag sighs, slowly giving up. As he is about to stop, what he's doing, he suddenly feels a strong burning feeling within himself. He jumps up, out of surprise, startling Rufus. But the feeling is gone already and nothing seemed to have happened. Sag puts the book away, feeling a little scared of it. After that, the wolf hugs the little witch, with his paw and keeps him warm, through the cold night. Without a fire, this would've probably been one uncomfortable night, but the fur, of the beast, is surprisingly soft and warm. The next day, Sag gets woken up by Rufus' barking. The witch looks around themselves. Everything, around him, is burning and he is standing, in the middle, of the bright ring. Rufus is across of him, hoodled up in the corner, barking at him. This should probably be scary to wake up to, but the person is more likely fascinated. The feeling, from when he tried to light the fire, is back. However, this time, it isn't painful. It feels more familiar than threatening.
"It's okay, it's nothing bad."
he smiles at the barking creature, trying to calm it down. Rufus stops barking but he is still not fond of the flames. Hesitantly, the witch holds his hand into the burning light. The pictures of houses burning down, screaming people and him getting shot, flash through his mind and he takes back his hand, in surprise. He frowns and tries it again, this time, nothing happens. The witch reaches out to the flames, taking it fully into his hand. And as if the flames knew, what they are supposed to do, they get smaller, till Sag is holding a ball shaped flame, in his palm. Rufus finally dares to come close.
"I guess, now we can make a campfire."
He hears a faint giggle, as if a little kid is running around, behind him. Sag turns around, but nothing is there. It doesn't seem like Rufus has heard anything, so he just decides to drop it. He kneels down, to his failure of a campfire, and places the little light ball within it. Less than a second later, the cave ignites with light and gets warmer. The wolf grunts and nudges Sag's shoulder.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you."
He pets the furry head of his beastly friend and then walks over to the bags.
"Catch!"
A big leg, probably from a bear or something similar, flies into the air and Rufus catches it. The beast takes his food to the side, enjoying it in silence. Sag takes out something, for himself, and rests at the fire.
