The next few days, they´ve spent walking, talking and training. Sag managed to teach Rufus some signs, that they could use in battle. On their way, the witch realized the feeling, that they had on the hill and back in the cave, more often. So they´ve decided to find a city, that teaches magic or is inhabited by witches. The wolf had no problem with that decision and tags along. Despite them walking this path together, Rufus still stays a wild beast. From time to time, he dashes away, leaving Sag on the road and comes back, with some prey in his mouth. The first time, that startled the witch. Not knowing why his friend was running and then gone, scared him. Especially because it happened so suddenly. But now he is kinda used to it. He realized, Rufus would come back and find him, due to him not being far gone. And it also added some food for them. At night, Sag would try to do his little fire trick again, in a less risky way. The first two days, it didn´t work. But now they are able to enjoy some delicious and not raw meat. However, the more time passed, the more they felt followed and watched. This time, their followers were much more skilled, than the last ones. But not skilled enough, for the duo to not notice.
"Have we done something, that makes people hate us?"
Rufus grunts. Arrows find their ways, into the ground, right in front of them.
"Oh, this time, they aren´t as hesitant."
The witch takes out his axe and Rufus waits for the go.
"Damned witch!"
A woman runs out the bushes, holding a giant speer. Sag signs the beast to get out of the way, of the girl and search for the other attackers. The woman tries stabbing the small person, but they easily dodge it and break the spear. He holds her by her arm,
"You´re from the town. What the fuck are you doing here?" "Taking you and the beast down, after you´ve killed innocent men."
The witch chuckles.
"Yeah, armed men, screaming to attack, are very innocent." Another town´s person tries to attack. Sag spins to the side and waits for his attacker to stand in front of him, before hitting him, very hardly, against the back of his neck and knocking him to the ground.
"You know,"
his attention goes back to the woman,
"just because I grew a liking on Trevor, doesn´t mean, I won´t kill you."
"Oh,"
she tries hitting him, with the broken weapon,
"Trevor is dead."
Sag stops and she manages to pierce the broken end, of the spear, through the witch´s shoulder. The small person doesn´t move but just looks at her in shock. Then, his pupils become really small, the eyes start glowing and some weird looking, purple veins start spreading from them. Sag bares with his teeth.
"WHAT?!!"
his demonic voice echoes across the field. Everything is silent, just some birds fly away, from the sudden noise. Everyone looks at the witch.
"..yeah,...we.....we´ve killed him." Sag twitches at that answer. He pulls out the stick, from his shoulder, jumps at the woman and is about to hit her with his now burning axe.
"No! No! Please, please..spare me! It was his fault! His!"
She pleads and points at the man, that attacked the duo a few days ago. The witch, roughly, takes the woman´s face in his hand and makes her look at him. A scared noise escapes her as she sees his face, the sclera of his eyes, now dark as the night.
"Never beg me for mercy."
This voice sounds so different from the voice before. It doesn´t sound like something coming from this world. More like it comes from the depths of hell. With one slash, the witch pulls his weapon through the flesh of the woman, leaving her face completely unrecognisable. Everyone seems more scared now, some attackers even try to run away. Sag whistles, pointing at the people that try to run. Rufus looks at him,
"Fetch."
his voice is completely monotone and without any feelings for anyone. The beast sprints, following the command.
"You damned monster!"
the man, that attacked them last time, comes closer.
"Just die already!"
he swings his sword at the small person, which hasn´t moved one inch, after giving his friend the command. Sag blocks the attack with his axe, going closer to the man.
"You call me a monster, but you kill people of your own kind." "He was not human anymore!" The sound of metal hitting metal flies through the air, as they keep fighting.
"He was manipulated by you and even practiced witchcraft!"
his sword breaks and he tumbles to the ground. The witch looks at him with his toxic glowing eyes, leaving terror in the man´s guts. Suddenly, the blood dripping out of Sag´s shoulder, moves over the ground, around the man. He tried to get it off of him, to no avail and gets heaved up in the air, by it.
"You seem to mistake me for a human. I don´t manipulate people. If I did, Trevor would´ve killed you, before you could´ve killed him."
The man rings for air, as the bloody ropes tighten around his neck and limbs.
"I hope he finds you in the afterlife."
The ropes pull at the man´s head, bending it unnaturally with a cracking sound. The people, who have witnessed that, let their weapons fall to the ground, in the same moment, the lifeless body, of the man, hits the dirt. Sag turns around, getting ready to fight another person.
"Wait!"
The man, from the improvised bridge, steps forward.
"Please don´t kill these people! I know they´ve done bad and I am a coward, for I haven´t stopped them. But if you kill them now, you´ll become the monster, they say you are!"
The witch twitches.
"Please let us redeem ourselves." Sag steps closer, whistling, so that Rufus comes back. He reaches out to the man, pulling him closer by his jacket.
"You will build a grave for Trevor, keep his shop running and allow other creatures, not only beasts, in your town. You will keep on making business with creatures like me and I will come back, checking if you are doing what I´ve told you. If you're disobeying,"
his grip tightens,
"I will be the monster you fear." "Wha- what if other people, or creatures, attack us?"
"If you´re doing what I´ll tell you, you will have nothing to fear,"
he releases the man and pushes him back, to the crowd. Rufus gives one last growl to the people and then turns around. They watch as the witch and the beast leave.
