After a hectic morning trying to get Finn up for school, and ready to go, Freen and Finn finally sat down to eat breakfast together before Mario came to pick him up to take him to school."You need to go to bed a little earlier tonight na, so you don't wake up cranky tomorrow, baby." Freen said as Finn eating his cereal.
A few minutes later, Mario rang the doorbell to her apartment. They went off to school together with Mario's little sister, Minnie who was in Matthayom 2 at the same school as Finn. If it weren't for the fact that Mario's little sister also attended the same school as her Finn, Freen wouldn't bother Mario to pick up her son for school every day.
And after school, he would pick them up and stop for lunch before Mario dropped his little sister off with his parents and dropped Finn off at his store. This continued for a year when he opened the store and Finn started elementary school.
Finn loved going to his store, it became a routine during that year. Mario always told Freen how much Finn liked to help him in the store. But these last few days, things started to be different after meeting the new girl.
Mario noticed it, but he thought that maybe the boy had gotten bored with the same routine at the store. So, he never suspected that Finn was wandering around the streets of the city. However, when Freen told him where Finn went for the last few days, he knew that Finn was lying to his mother. He knew that there was no video game store in the town where they lived.
"So... Finn, do you want to tell uncle the truth?" Mario asked Finn as they enjoyed their lunch after dropping Minnie off at her house.
"Hm? What truth?" The little boy answered as if he had no secret.
While eating his burger, Mario spoke again. "I know you lied to your Mae, Finn. There is no video game store in this town. I would know if there is one na?"
Finn left his burger on the table, and grabbed another fries, he picked up his napkin, wiped his mouth, taking his time to think of another excuse. "Eh? But, there is one. They just opened it.. like.. um... yesterday? Cai! Yesterday."
Taking a big bite of his burger, Mario said again. "If they opened it yesterday, where were you the day before yesterday? Wednesday? Tuesday? Monday? Or Sunday–"
"Okay ka, okay.. I lied okay? Please don't tell Mae. I don't want her to be mad at me, please na kub?" He finally gave up, thinking there was no other way out.
"Finn ka... I won't tell your Mae if you tell me the truth. That's the deal, if not... you'll have to deal with your Mae on your own na." Mario offered.
Finn glanced between Mario and his burger on the table. "Okay kub... uhm.. I.. I went to see a girl."
"Oih..! My little boy finally found himself a girlfriend?" Mario excitedly teased him.
"Oi! Mai! She's not my girlfriend!"
Mario looked at him with a big smile on his face. Finn's cheeks were blushing like tomatoes. "Huh, cai, cai..."
"She's not, really. But she's a really nice girl, uncle. I saw her a weeks ago, but I was afraid to talk to her, so I followed her until yesterday when a drunk man almost hurt her but I saved her."
"Oi!! You what?? Finn, that was really dangerous–"
"I know, uncle! I know... but she was terrified, I couldn't just watch how that man bugging her. She was really scared you know?"
"Uhm.. okay na ka, but next time you have to call me first when things like that happen na?"
"Mm! Okay.."
"So... what's her name?"
"Becbec.."
"Awh? Is she cute?"
Finn looked like he was going to argue again but thought better of it. "She's beautiful... but I need to tell you something." He said. "You have to promise me that you won't tell Mae or please don't get weird or something okay?"
Mario nodded. "Okay dai, I promise na. What's wrong?"
Finn took a deep breath and continued. "She's different, uncle. I mean like, like the 'special different' kind of thing."
Mario threw out multiple questions again. "Hm? What? I don't get it, different like what? Special? You say like..."
"Cai, she's special. I think she's like Mae's age, but she doesn't act like Mae or you. She's like nong Fay and nong May." Finn explained, comparing the girl to the daughters of his Mae's friends, as if he weren't a child like the others.
Mario seemed confused but decided to give it a chance. "Ah... can I see her?"
"I can take you to her later, I was supposed to see her again today. She said she wanted to take me to her house. We were going to play video games, but I'm grounded. Uncle Mario, please na kub... help me... you're the only hope, can you tell Mae not to ground me? I don't want to go to the salon, it will be boring with Mae's clients." He made a sad face and pouted. "Please, please na kub? Becbec is going to be waiting for me because I promised her that I would go see her today."
"Uhm... let me think."
"Uncle please? I'll tell Mae nice things about you if you help me!"
"Aw? Would you? So... this is like a system change?"
He smiled slyly. "What is a system change?"
"Nothing. So, you'll help me get your Mae and I'll help you get your girl?"
"Cai!! Eh? Mai cai!! I mean, mai.. I just want to be her friend, that's all. So..?"
"Okay kub, shall we go then?" Mario asked, getting up from his chair at the restaurant, going to pay for the food.
To be continued.
