/FLASHBACK/

Becky was entering her first day in Matthayom 5, five weeks after the first year of high school had started. When she entered the new school, the hallways were large and filled with students walking to class. She was sure all the kids were staring at her and some even smiled, but she didn't want to talk to anyone. She just wanted to be invisible, the reason she was here in the first place.

The next three days passed like the first day. She attended all of her classes. She didn't really talk to anyone unless they talked to her first. After school, she would ride the school bus and walk home alone.

It wasn't until a few more days passed that she saw someone catch her interest more than anyone else she had seen at school. It was a girl she had never seen before. A beautiful girl who was giggling and gesturing with her hands while the other girls around her laughed.

Her jaw dropped as she watched a few bangs of dark brown hair escaping from the tight bun that fell around her face. The girl brushed them from her face, her movement quick, but graceful. Even from there, she could see a bunch of freckles on her nose and cheeks. And the girl's smile...

Becky had never seen anything more radiant.

She couldn't stop staring from her locker, couldn't move if she wanted to, feeling like she had been pinned to the ground. The girl wasn't twenty feet away at her locker from a distance. Then, the girl turned to her, saw her staring at her, and Becky froze.

The warm brown eyes she had seen look back at her. It was only for a few seconds, but if it was possible for the heart to stop but still alive, she was an example. She watched the girl look at her watch and realized she only had a minute before the bell. The girl took a few books and put them in her suitcases, she piled a paper with her books as the bell rang, but as she stood up something slipped from her books and falls to the floor without her noticing. The girl ran to her class with her friends.

She walked to that girl's locker and picked up the small piece of paper on the floor. It was a photo of her with a little girl in it, it could be her little sister, she thought, since they looked alike. On the back of the picture was a handwritten poem, and her name.

"Sarocha Chankimha..."

Becky wanted to give it back to her, maybe she could when she saw Sarocha again. Yes, she would definitely do that, it could be the reason she could talk to her without sounding weird, she thought.

The next day, the girl's beautiful brown eyes etched a mark on her soul. She couldn't stop thinking about her and read her poem for several times. She decided that today would be the day she would finally "get the courage" and say "hi." She thought of all the possible ways to start a conversation without losing her cool.

She imagined she would say something like 'Sawadee ka P'Sarocha, I'm Rebecca. I think this is yours, you left it yesterday. Can we be friends or something?'

In her imagination, Sarocha would offer a big smile, and sigh in appreciation. But, when Becky finally saw her in the hallway with her head down, reading her book, she didn't. Instead, she sighed heavily, realising she was only brave enough to give a quick 'hi' when that girl was no longer in sight.

The next two days, Becky saw Sarocha again during lunch. That girl was in the serving line at the cafeteria, looking for a table to read her favourite book. The cafeteria was packed with lots of people. Luckily, there was an unoccupied table at the back of the cafeteria and near a window. For that girl, it was perfect, a little unnoticeable space, just like she wanted. The girl loved nothing better than finding a quiet corner where she could lose herself in a book, explore new worlds, and visit places she never expected to see in her mind.
