Chapter 17

Waking up the next day, Freen went to make breakfast after taking a quick shower. Becbec was still sleeping in her room when she heard the doorbell of her apartment ring, signaling that Mario was waiting for her son in front of the apartment building. Freen went to get her son.

Even though she knew things were going to be awkward between her and Mario, there was nothing she could do to avoid seeing him. He was a part of her and her son's life, it was almost impossible for her to ignore what had happened between them, because sooner or later, they had to face it.

"Watdee ka, phi..." She said once Mario saw her.

Yeah, things were definitely awkward.

"Nong." That was all he said before taking Finn's backpack from her hand to put it in the car. Mario's sister was waving at Freen from the passenger seat and Freen responded to the gesture by giving her a happy nod.

"Can we talk later?" Freen asked as Finn sat
in the backseat of Mario's car.

"Uhm, sure." He answered hesitantly, and with a bit of a blush. "But, I have... uhm... I have a meeting with the supplier today." Mario said.

"Oh, okay ka. Just let me know when you're free, na?"

"Of course, nong." He said before closing the door of his car and driving, leaving Freen's building.

Freen sighed deeply. It was the first time she had the misunderstood situation between Mario because it was the first time Mario expressed his opinion on the state of the their relationship. She didn't really know what to do, but the only thing she knew for sure, they need to talk about it.

When Freen entered her apartment, she was surprised to see Becbec sitting on the floor in the living room watching television. The girl looked at her without saying anything, with her sleepy eyes and her hair disheveled. Freen was pretty sure that the girl had never been more adorable. But she pushed the thought out of her mind before it could go any further.

"Uhm, are you hungry, nuu?" Freen asked the girl and she just nodded her head. Freen waved her hand for her to follow her to the kitchen. "Let's go get breakfast."

When the girl appeared in the kitchen, Freen realized that Becbec probably went straight to the living room when she woke up. Because from the looks of it, she hadn't wash her face yet.

"Have you brushed your teeth?"

What came next answered her question. The other girl shook her head with a grimace and Freen laughed, because once again, Freen thought she was extremely adorable.

"Go brush your teeth and wash your face na, then you can come to breakfast, okay?"

After about five minutes, the girl reappeared.

"Has Finn gone to school?" Becbec asked once she was sitting at the breakfast table with a bowl of cereal and a spoon in front of her.

"Cai... he just left a moment ago." Freen said as she pulled three different brands of cereal out of the kitchen cupboard. The girl selected Cheerios and poured it into the bowl.

"Why didn't you wake me up? I wanted to say goodbye to him." Becbec frowned.

Freen helped her pour milk over the cereal. "I didn't know you wanted to say goodbye to him, you were sleeping, but you can say goodbye tomorrow, okay?"

"Emh!" The girl answered with a mouthful of cereal in her mouth while she chewed slowly.

After breakfast, Freen asked the girl to take a shower and gave her the appropriate clothes to wear that day. As they got ready to go to the living room, the other girl started acting normal. She talked to Freen more, about Finn, about her mommy, about Heidi, about her daddy, about her favorite movie and other things that came to mind.
