A World Without
You:
You were laid beside Jina and you had kept your promise.
Namjoon stood there, holding Sohee in his arms as she sobbed on his shoulder.
"Appa, aunty won't come back? Ever? She left us like Eomma, right?"
Namjoon stayed silent, tears streaming down his cheeks.
He pat Sohee on the back.
Sohee blamed herself for not telling her father about V. Maybe if she'd have told her appa about him, then aunty would be safe today.
She has so much planned for the three of you. Family trips, tea parties, birthday parties, and so much more.
But above all, she wanted you to be her mother. She wanted to call you eomma. But that was a distant dream now.
Namjoon stood in front of the freshly turned earth, the cold wind biting at his skin, but he barely felt it.
He looked down at the grave, the name Y/N etched into the stone, and the reality of it hit him like it had every day since you were taken from him. You, who had brought light back into his world after the loss of his wife, who had made him believe that love, real love, could find him again, was gone.
His breath hitched, tears brimming in his eyes. It had always been hard, raising Sohee alone after his wife died. But you had come into their lives like a quiet miracle. You didn’t try to replace the love he lost and simply added to it, slowly rebuilding him with your patience, laughter, and warmth. You had loved Sohee as your own, and Namjoon had fallen deeper with every stolen glance, every quiet moment you both shared when Sohee slept. You had shown him that he didn’t have to carry his grief alone anymore.
And now you were gone too.
Namjoon’s chest tightened, and his legs felt weak. How was he supposed to do this again? How was he supposed to face the world without you, without the one person who made him feel like he wasn’t drowning? He couldn’t imagine mornings without your voice, evenings without your gentle touch, the way you’d hold him close after a long day of being strong for everyone else. You were the only one who saw past the walls he had built, the only one who knew how broken he still was.
His knees buckled, and he sank to the ground, holding Sohee tighter as if you were the only anchor keeping him tethered to this moment, to this unbearable reality. His tears fell freely now, hot and uncontrollable, staining the small blanket that covered his daughter.
"I can’t do this," he whispered, his voice raw and broken. "I can’t... not without you."
Sohee stirred slightly in his arms, her small fingers curling against his jacket, and for a moment, Namjoon felt crushed by the weight of it all. He had to keep going, and had to be strong for her. But how could he, when every breath felt like a betrayal, when the world seemed darker and emptier without you?
He pressed his forehead against the cold stone, sobbing quietly, the sound of his grief lost in the wind. There were no more promises he could make, no more dreams he could share. All that was left was the painful memory of what could have been, a life together, raising Sohee, building a family that could have healed the deep wounds inside him. He never could tell that he loved you.
But now, all he had was the silence. And the unbearable ache of knowing that the woman he loved was buried beneath his feet, leaving him to walk this world alone once again.
Jungkook slowly walked towards him and stood there silently.
"I think both the best friends prefer each other's company more than they do ours." He whispered, drawing Namjoon's attention.
