are you a nun now?

"You're going out," Amara insisted, her voice crackling through the phone.

"I wanted to stay home with Max," Kat said glancing over at her boyfriend who was lounging on the couch next to her.

"You're always with Max," Hailey whined, her voice laced with playful frustration as she began straightening her hair on the phone. "He can spare you for one night".

Kat exchanged a look with Max, who raised an eyebrow unbothered and shrugged back in response.

"Max let her out," Amara chimed in.

Kat chuckled as she turned the screen to Max. He looked up from his laptop, eyes furrowed in concentration before speaking.

"I'm not saying no. I never say no," he said as he held his hands up. "It's her choice" Max firmly stated before redirecting his attention back to his work.

"You never come out anymore. You must hate us," Hailey groaned. Kat could sense the gaslighting coming from her best friend as Hailey began to smirk, "I'll buy you two rounds. It's been ages!".

Kat knew deep down that her two best friends had a valid point. Her nights out had become nights in ever since she moved in with Max. She didn't mind binging TV with Max and just having a night in but a part of her missed going out with the girls — shots, free drinks, bad decisions, and quality girl time.

"Fine," Kat sighed reluctantly, "Time to get ready".

Amara and Hailey collectively began to squeal in excitement and celebrate their best friend coming out of hiding. Kat couldn't help but smile and shake her head at their reactions.

"Pregame at mine?" Kat suggested as she turned to Max, "You wouldn't mind driving us there? I won't ask for you to bring us home".

Max's eyebrows shot up in surprise but a slow grin spread across his face. "You're really going out? With them? I guess I'll be your chauffeur for the night... as long as Amara doesn't throw up in my car".

Kat laughed as Amara defended herself through the phone, "Hey! It was the one time!".

Max looked happy that Kat finally wasn't confining herself to their apartment and was spending a night out. And deep down, Kat was more excited than ever. As she stood up and made her way to the closet, she couldn't help but get a reminiscent moment of the last time they went out together. A grin spread across her face from the memory of her chugging and then ending up on the bar top.

As she opened her closet door and stared at the hangers in front of her, she directed her eyes to the going out clothes that seemed like they were collecting dust. The small Tennessee town wasn't ideal for a going out dress but as Amara and Hailey always said: "You can never be too dressed up".

Rifling through all of her options, she settled for shorts, a black tank top, and her sneakers. This would have to do. The girls would be here any minute. As she brushed her hair, she attempted to put on light makeup with the other hand. The sound of tires pulling up on the gravel driveway was her signal to proceed getting ready faster.

It didn't take long for Amara's laughter to flood the house alongside Hailey's chatter. With two six-packs in hand, the girls waved to Max placing the packs on the counter.

"We have everything needed!" Hailey smiled before frowning as she looked at Kat.

"Are you a nun now?" Amara asked following Hailey's stare, which caught Max's attention.

Kat turned red as she finished putting her mascara on before turning to face her best friends, "Ok well hey guys! Nice to see you too!".

As she observed their outfits, she couldn't help but understand their comments. She was too casual for the occasion.

"Put on some boots or change into a skirt," Hailey walked to the closet as she pulled out some brown boots and a brown skirt. Kat grabbed the boots and changed her shoes as Hailey put the skirt back in the closet.

Amara was chatting Max's ear off about music as Kat couldn't help but smile. Having her best friends over before a night out made everything feel more fun.

After making her way towards the kitchen, Amara gave Kat a hug, "I haven't seen you dressed up for a night out in ages".

The sound of drinks being opened filled the kitchen as Kat laughed, "I'm a lightweight now. Don't be too excited".

"Ok lightweight," Hailey teased Kat, "That's why we are pregaming. Did you hear about Chloe and Nick?".

Just like that, the girls began their familiar routine of gossip, shots, drinks and catching up. Relaxing into the situation, Kat couldn't help but find herself the happiest she had been in awhile. She missed nights out like this.

All attention was redirected to Max as he made his way towards the kitchen with a teasing amused tone, "You ladies good?".

"Absolutely perfect!" Hailey smiled.

"Kat and you live together so you have to drive us. She took one for the team!" Amara commented making Kat  and Max laugh.

"Don't worry!" Max chuckled as he grabbed himself a glass of water.

As they clinked their glasses together for one last shot, Kat knew tonight would be a night she couldn't wait to have.
