Before Kat could respond, Amara and Hailey returned from the bathroom. "Um Kat.. we should call it a night. I got an Uber," Hailey spoke as she nearly carried Amara.

Kat's eyes filled with disappointment as she was finally feeling like someone was understanding her. She was hearing things she didn't even know she needed to hear.

"Are yall going to be okay?" Morgan asked with concern.

Kat nodded as she handed Amara a water. "Yeah. Thank you though".

Morgan and Kat continued their conversation as Kat felt herself sober up. Amara had gotten too drunk but for once, she wished the night could have lasted longer.

"You know... you don't need to sit here and keep me company," Kat spoke to Morgan.

"I want to. You guys have to get home safe" he shook his head. "Where's your Uber?"

Amara and Hailey drunkenly giggled as a response while Kat took Hailey's phone and rolled her eyes. She always was the responsible one. Not just in her relationship but in her friendships, being not responsible for once was not an option. Checking Hailey's phone, it was clear that she had not ordered the Uber.

"They still didn't call?" Kat mentioned annoyed to Hailey.

Hailey shrugged slurring her words more noticeably, "The app is broken".

Kat sighed as she gave Hailey her phone back and took hers out. Morgan glanced at Kat, "You sure you're going to be alright?".

Kat exhaled sharply. She could order the Uber which would take at least an hour at this point because of the bars closing. She could text Max, who would be obnoxiously curious as to how they ended up with Morgan Wallen. Plus that seemed like a recipe for disaster with her drunk friends who would be eager to tell the story and she didn't want to start a potential fight with Max.

"You know what? I'll drive yall home. It's not safe right now to order an Uber," Morgan said snatching his truck keys out of his pocket.

Kat blinked in surprise by the offer. "You sure? You don't have to".

"Positive. I'm not leaving yall stranded," Morgan nodded with the same easygoing expression he had all night.

Before Kat could thank him, Amara had snatched Kat's arm and pulled her towards the door. "We are getting a ride from the Morgan Wallen. Come on!".

Kat shot her a look and before she could speak, Hailey chimed in. "When else will we have Morgan drive us home? Also Amara, slow down my feet hurt".

Kat couldn't even protest so she shook her head. "Morgan, you sure?".

He nodded and led the girls towards his F-150. Opening the door for Kat to sit in the passenger seat while opening the other for Amara and Hailey, he handed Hailey a plastic bag to throw up in. Kat didn't know whether to be embarrassed or grateful that their Uber never showed up. But she was slightly excited to be in the car with him.

His truck smelt like pine and tobacco as country quietly played on the radio. As they pulled away from the bar, Amara and Hailey dozed off in the backseat as Morgan drove.

"I dont know how you put up with them," Morgan joked filling the small silence as he looked in the backseat. "I'm kidding, I've seen worse".

Kat laughed softly settling into the seat and began to navigate for Morgan. "I wasn't expecting my night to end up like this".

Morgan glanced over at her softened expression as he watched her talk to herself. "No one does".

As Kat made herself comfortable in the passenger seat, the truck rumbled down Hailey's familiar seat. Nudging her gently, Morgan opened the car door and got out to open the door for Hailey.

Hailey blinked awake with a groggy smile on her face, "You're so cool".

Amara perked up and yawned before speaking, "I'm sleeping here".

The girls stumbled out barely awake into Hailey's driveway and proceeded inside. Morgan watched them walk inside before walking back to the truck to Kat, who had taken a video of them being walked to the door for Hailey's and Amara's own recollection.

"Thank you" Kat smiled at him.

"Don't mention it".

The truck felt quieter and the streets felt more empty than before now that it was just the both of them. The unspoken and unrecognizable tension was back floating in the air.

As they turned to Kat's apartment, she couldn't help but feel her heart drop. She had no clue what to even say to him as he parked his truck. The both of them just sat in comfortable silence as the streetlight shined on their faces. The tension was intense and present.

"Thank you," Kat said softly.

Morgan kept his eyes on her as he unbuckled his seatbelt but stayed in his seat. "Anytime Kat. Are you sure you're okay?".

She nodded slowly keeping her eyes on him as she unbuckled her seatbelt. "Yeah- I- Just glad I went out tonight".

Kat hesitated before reaching for the door to which Morgan snapped into realization and got out to grab the door for her.

"You didn't have to" she barely whispered to him as she stood outside the passenger door.

"Goodnight Kat" Morgan softly said.

"Goodnight Morgan" she repeated in the same tone.

Despite the goodnight, both of them stayed glued in place. Something was undeniably pulling them towards each other and it wasn't the alcohol for once.

Morgan's eyes softened, "Is everything okay?". His voice was laced with concern but also with the curiosity of what was running through her head.

"I mean yeah," Kat hesitated as she spoke to him, unsure of what to even say. "I guess I just.. didn't want tonight to end like this".

The streetlight was their spotlight as Morgan took a step closer to her. Her breath hitched as she tuned out all of the surroundings. "Me neither," he said as he brushed a piece of her hair behind her ear.

Kat's heart was undeniably pounding out of her chest as she maintained eye contact with him. The simple touch was enough to send a shiver down her spine. And before she could even overthink what was going on through her head, Morgan cupped her face and pulled her in for a kiss.

It wasn't a kiss of heat. It was a kiss that was delicate and careful... slow and steady. Her hands placed gently on his chest until she decided to push back.

"Well... I-" Kat stopped herself from speaking. She didn't even know what she wanted to say.

"Goodnight Kat" he whispered keeping his eyes on her.

"Goodnight Morgan" she replied as she watched him get in the drivers seat before walking into the apartment.
