The next morning, Kat woke up and immediately checked her phone. And to her surprise, Morgan had texted her back early.

Morgan: Hey! Want to hear me do some karaoke at a small bar tonight? Would love for you to come and get some lessons.

Her heart raced at the invitation. The flirtation in the message and the thought of her seeing him onstage had her heart beating rapidly. But then, reality hit. What about Max? It's not like they would have had plans anyways.

Kat: Sounds like a plan! Send me the details

Morgan: 9 PM at Dolores, it should be small and chill

Kat caught herself smiling at herself like a schoolgirl with a crush as she considered her options. She was eager to see what would happen tonight. For once in her life, she was shaking with anticipation to go to her plans. But she had to go for her own sanity. She didn't know what she was doing but she was going with it.

Sending a screenshot to her groupchat with the girls she added a caption.

Kat: going with the flow

Amara: go with the flow and be a hoe :')

Kat: oh my god AMARA. NO.

Hailey: shut up Amara. go with the flow and have fun. be careful

With her decision made. Kat carefully got out of bed and went through her morning routine. A concoction of guilt and thrill brewed inside her. What if Max found out? What would she tell him?  Could she do this? What was she doing?

As she went about her day, Kat realized that she had to text Max.

Kat: I'm going to go out with the girls but nothing crazy. What do you want to do about dinner?

Max: proud of you. Pizza will be fine for me and I'll save you some!

Kat smiled at his response but because she was thinking of what Morgan would have said. Probably something about her singing on the stage and how she couldn't decide on dinner. The internal battle with herself made her feel horrible yet happy.

As the day went by, Kat was nearly shaking with anticipation for the night. The day went by quickly as she stared into her closet and picked out a halter top and the brown skirt and sneakers. As she straightened her hair, she heard Max come in through the front door.

"Looking good babe" Max complimented her.

Kat felt odd about the comment but chose to ignore the feeling. It was a long time since she had received a compliment from him.

"Thanks" she replied as she gave him a slight smile.

Max walked in the bedroom to get his pajamas and undress. "So where are you going?" he asked casually.

"Dolores" Kat plainly answered.

He nodded "Do you need a ride? I'm glad you've been going out".

She turned to him confused, "What do you mean you're glad?".

"You don't really get out the house Kat" he shrugged, "It's not a bad thing".

Rather than start an argument, Kat stayed quiet as she turned her straightener off and grabbed her purse. Heading out the door after a slight kiss on the cheek from Max, Kat drove to Dolores. She couldn't ignore the feeling that she was crossing the line. Was she being unfair to Max?

But a part of her was eager to explore this new connection. The connection just gravitated her.

Stepping out the car and into the Tennessee sunset hues of orange and pink, she took a deep breath. She didn't owe anyone anything except herself.

Dolores was an intimate venue but the line was pretty long. Walking to the bouncer and gaining dirty looks, she showed a text from Morgan which she was instructed to show by him. Going through an empty Dolores with the security guard was strange but she noticed so much she never noticed previous times, like the crack in the bar.

Being dropped off backstage, she was greeted by Morgan and one security guard. Morgan shooed off the guard as he smiled and stood up to greet her. There was just some food and drinks in the back and a stool, after all it was just a small Tennessee bar.

"You made it!" he smiled making her heart flutter from the genuine enthusiasm.

"I would never miss it" she replied.

"I'll see you after," he nodded as the security guard came in to usher him onto the stage.

As she watched Morgan, Kat lost herself in the music. She had never seen him live but he was good, it just made her like him more. But in the back of her mind was Max. Would she tell him? Would she tell Morgan?

But for now, all she could do was enjoy the music and let the music wash over.
