Kat found herself sitting on the couch with Max on the other end of it as he worked on his laptop. While flipping through the shows, she found her attention focused on the slow and tender kiss she shared with Morgan.

Feeling herself lost in thought, she was disturbed by the vibration of her phone. Picking it up, her heart raced when she saw an incoming call from an unknown number. Could it be? Her hand hesitated to press accept as she stared at the screen.

"Are you going to get that?" Max quirked an eyebrow up as he blankly stared at his screen.

"Uh yeah I'm just going to take this outside. It's my mom," she lied as she stepped out to the balcony.

Before the last ring finished, she picked up the call. "Hello," she cautiously spoke.

"Do you make everyone wait this long? I got your number from Hailey. I hope you don't mind" Morgan's voice greeted her, sending a jolt of excitement through her body.

Kat's heart raced at the sound of his playful voice from the thrill and sheer panic. She would have to talk to Hailey after this. "Uh yeah- I mean no. Sorry! I'm glad you called," she squeaked. How stupid could someone sound? Not as stupid as this.

"So I was thinking about last night" Morgan casually spoke. "I had fun hanging out with you and the girls".

Kat grinned, "Me too. It was definitely a fun time".

"Would you want to hang out and grab a coffee or something? I'm sure you're hungover right now" he suggested making her heart skip a beat.

Alongside the wave of excitement, she felt a wave of guilt about Max rush through her. "That sounds great... let me get back to you on when I can though" she hesitated before coming up with an excuse.

"Sounds good, just shoot me a text" Morgan said.

"Will do!" Kat hung up.

After she hung up, she set her phone down from the pounding feeling and began calling Hailey.

"Hello?" Hailey confusingly greeted her.

"You gave my number" she whispered to Hailey before peeking inside the apartment to see if Max was making his way over.

"I did oh my god. I forgot- Wait did he call?" Hailey gasped from the recollection.

"We are going to hang out... I just- Oh my god. What am I doing?" Kat shrieked quietly in the phone.

"Follow your gut like you are!" Hailey exclaimed. "Let me know how it goes".

Before Kat could respond, Hailey mentioned Ben coming home and hung up. This was her chance to see Morgan again but with the weight of her being with Max, she felt like a bad person.

Walking back inside, she sat back on the couch and sharply exhaled.

"You ok?" Max asked looking at her.

She nodded in silence as she tried to find something she wanted to watch.

"Are you sure?" Max questioned as he observed her state of chaos.

"Max... I am just hungover still" she said trying to reassure him.

He nodded with a slight smile on his face. "How was your night? Any fun stories?".

She couldn't have felt a bigger pit in her stomach form. "Not at all. We were the drunkest people at the bar for sure though. But we Ubered home".

Max raised an eyebrow not entirely convinced. "That's it?".

"We all blacked out" Kat lied. She had a feeling her lie want believable but Max turning his head back to the laptop was all the confirmation she needed.

Later that night, Kat found herself tossing and turning in bed, shaking from the guilt. She loved Max — stability and comfort. But the thrill she got from Morgan was itching at her, it was something she was missing in her life. Not a thrill exactly but an unidentifiable sensation.

Finally, she texted Morgan.

Kat: Hey! Sorry I forgot to text earlier. I'm free tomorrow!

Pressing send and muting his notifications, she slid her phone back on the nightstand. Her heart raced as she stared at her screen momentarily wondering when he would reply. After a few seconds, she closed her eyes and tried to make herself feel comfortable. Drifting off she couldn't help but hope that whatever happened would just help her gain clarity.
