Jungkook tossed and turned in his bed, sleep evading him as his thoughts churned. Frustrated, he sat up, rubbing his face with a tired hand. His body ached for rest, but his mind wouldn’t stop. With a sigh, he threw the blankets off and quietly made his way downstairs. The cool night air always helped clear his head, and he figured a walk in the garden might do the trick.
As he stepped outside, he froze. Lisa was already there, sitting alone on the bench, staring at the flowers illuminated by the soft moonlight. Jungkook hesitated for a moment, wondering if he should leave her to her solitude, but something urged him forward. He slowly made his way to her and sat down next to her without saying a word.
Lisa turned her head slightly, acknowledging his presence, but said nothing at first. Jungkook finally broke the silence. “Can’t sleep again?”
She shook her head, her eyes distant. “No... not tonight.”
Jungkook glanced at her and noticed she was wearing his hoodie, the one he’d given her a few nights ago when she’d been cold. The sight made his heart skip, and a small blush crept onto his cheeks, but he quickly shook it off. “Same reason as before?” he asked, already knowing the answer.
Lisa nodded. “Yeah. It’s always the same reason.” Her voice was quiet, filled with an exhaustion that had nothing to do with lack of sleep.
They sat in comfortable silence for a few minutes, both lost in their thoughts. The night was calm, but there was an underlying tension, a heaviness between them.
After a while, Lisa spoke again, her voice softer this time. “Do you think it’s wrong that I’m afraid of men?” There was a vulnerability in her question, a fear of being judged for something she couldn’t control.
Jungkook turned his head, looking at her seriously. “No,” he said firmly. “It’s not wrong at all.” His gaze softened as he continued, “I get it. I’m a guy, and I know what men are capable of. I know the worst parts of us.” He paused, trying to find the right words. “What you’ve been through... it’s more than enough reason to be scared. You don’t need to feel guilty about that.”
Lisa let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding. “But it feels... I don’t know... wrong, somehow. I know you guys wouldn’t hurt me. I know that. But I still get scared sometimes. When you guys walk into the house all bloody it's...scary.”
Jungkook nodded, understanding her struggle. He reached out and gently took her hand, his touch warm and reassuring. “We would never hurt you. You’re safe with us. All of us care about you, Lisa. We’d protect you, no matter what.”
Jungkook and the rest of the gang have constantly repeated these words. But they understood the fear Lisa felt and if reminding her comforted her they'd remind her a 1000 times just because they wanted her to feel safe.
She believed him. She trusted him, and the other boys too. It had surprised her how quickly she and Jennie had become comfortable around them, considering the harsh, violent world they all lived in. There was something about the guys that made her feel safe, even though they were stronger and more dangerous than anyone she had ever known.
Jungkook leaned back, staring at the stars overhead. “The truth is... yeah, women can be annoying sometimes we're all human after all,” he admitted with a slight smirk. “And yeah, I have... desires. But I’d never shout at a woman, or hit her, or force myself on her. Ever. That’s just... not me.”
Lisa looked at him, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. It wasn’t just that he was saying what she needed to hear—he was being honest. She could see it in his eyes. Jungkook wasn’t trying to act like some hero. He was just... decent.
