Abandoned in NYC

a hard choice

Olivia had amanda put an apb out on Molly Branson and the car registered in her name. She was hopeing to find this woman who might be hee sister before she ended her life.

Olivia had put Madelyn in her office and let her play on her personal tablet. Olivia was standing in the lunch area with amanda just stareing at the little girl in her office.

"What are you going to do liv?" Amanda asked curiously.

Olivia sighed "i...I don't know." She shook her head "I don't know this little girl or her mother and I have noah to think about...it's alot amanda but I also don't trust her going in to the foster care system and possibly going back to a man who may hurt her." Olivia said haveing a conflict with herself.

"Maybe you should call Trevor maybe he can give you some advice on everything" amanda said.

Olivia nodded and then said "the records we got on Molly and Madelyn did it say where Madelyn went to school?"

Amanda nodded "yeah." She pulled out some papers flipping through them "George Washington elementary school in Brooklyn." Amanda confirmed.

"Why don't we head over there and get some background on Madelyn and her family." Olivia said still looking at the small child.

Amanda and olivia arrived at the school half an hour later and walked in to the front office and olivia showed her badge "I'm captain Benson of the special victims unit and I was hopeing to speak with the administrator or principal."

The lady at the desk nodded and paged the principal over the loud speaker. Mrs. Clark appeared moments later and introduced herself "I'm Evelyn Clark the principal of this school what can I do for you captain?"

"I actually wanted to speak with you and any of your staff that works with Madelyn Branson." Olivia said matter of factly.

"Oh. Madelyn didn't come in today her mother called her in this morning said they were going on a trip and might be moving. May I ask what this is about?" She asked.

"Her mother left her daughter at a police station and it seems the mother is now missing but we wanted to get some information on the girl." Olivia said not giving too much information on the situation.

Mrs. Clark nodded "oh dear alright let me just see if I can gather the staff."

It took 45 minutes to get the staff together who saw Madelyn on a daily basis. Olivia and amanda questioned each of them but only one gave them any good information. Madelyn teacher Ms. Kline said "some times ...well most times she came to school without lunch and I did on more than one occasion see suspicious bruises on her. I did report it to Mrs. Clark but never heard anything else on the subject. I did what I could to help the girl but she is always so shy and kept to herself. But I made sure she always got lunch paid for it out of my own pocket."

After talking to the staff and olivia berating the principal for not reporting the bruising olivia and amanda left.

As they returned to the precinct olivia looked in her office and didn't see Madelyn at first but as she walked closer she seen the girl was asleep on the couch in her office. She looked at her squad and said "did we find Molly yet?"

Fin sighed as he hung up the phone "unfortunately yes. She parked her car by the Hudson and one gunshot to the head they just found her an hour ago."

Olivia sighed "ok I'm going to go wake her and take her to the doctor for an exam. Fin have the coroner run a dna test and compare it to mine and Madelyn dna."

"You got it cap." He said as olivia went in her office and she gently shook Madelyn awake.

Madelyn woke rubbing her eyes "did you find my mommy?" She asked.

"You know sweetie....we aren't sure yet but I want to take you to the doctor to get looked at ok?"

Madelyn shook her head and backed up "no...no daddy said he'd be angry if mommy took me to the doctor."

"Well its a good thing I'm taking you then and I'll be with you the whole time if you will trust me." Olivia said kneeling in front of her.

Madelyn hesitated but nodded and olivia took her hand and left with her.

Madelyn was nervous as the doctor looked her over and after finding vaginal trauma olivia decided they needed a rape kit.

Madelyn was hesitant but olivia stroked her hair "I'll be right here the whole time sweetheart."

Madelyn finally nodded but squeezed Olivia's hand the whole time and closed her eyes but near the end of the exam she freaked out and said "no! No stopit!" She flailed her body in a struggle.

The doctor stopped and olivia held the girl "calm down hunny its just me, just breath." She said helping her "follow my breaths" she said and after a bit Madelyns breaths came back to normal and olivia held her close stroking her hair. "I'll be right back ok you just sit here and when I come back we will leave ok?"

Madelyn nodded but didn't speak.

Olivia went to the hall with the doctor "Olivia this is one of the worst cases I've seen in a while she's only 5 you said?"

"Yeah. What did you see?" Olivia asked.

"She's been physically and sexually abused for at least 2 years I would say atleast 3 to 4 times a week." She sighed.

Olivia looked at the girl curled up on the hospital bed "I want the kit rushed to the lab as soon as possible."

The doctor nodded and walked away.

Olivia went back to the room with Madelyn.
