Chapter 3
Jayla's pov
The past
I told her that we needed a girl's night to catch up soon then I went into my office and shut the door behind me so I could deal with Kingston. I wondered where Tobias was at. Was he going to show back up? I hated that he thought he could just show up at any time and disrupt my life. I needed to gain control back. I dialed Kingston's number and waited for him to answer.
"Hello Kitten," Kingston said.
Kitten? Was he serious right now? Good thing I called him from my cellphone and not my office phone where anyone could listen in. I had a feeling he didn't call to talk about the treaty at all. I think this has more to do with the night we shared than anything else.
"Hello Kingston, what is it you wanted? Is everything ok?"
"I can't just call to check in?"
"Yes, of course you can but my assistant made it sound like there was something wrong with the treaty."
"I figured that would get you to call me right away and well I missed you."
"Kingston you could have just called me on my cell at any time, but you called the house line, and you know that I don't know who I can trust here just yet and well people talk."
"You're right and I am sorry for that. I just needed to get a hold of you right away because I am coming there."
Wait did he just say what I think he did? Kingston was coming here? Why would he be coming here? The treaty was signed so there was no reason other than us hooking up again and he knows better than to come here for that. What the hell was going on? I could not have Kingston here with Jayden being here and Tobias lurking around like he always is. I had to put a stop to this and fast.
"Wait what the hell do you mean you are coming here you know that can't happen Kingston." I tried to plead with him.
"Wait you didn't know I was coming?"
"No, you think I would be surprised if I knew you were coming? What the hell is going on Kingston?"
"I figured you knew since your mother called me and said I was needed at the castle for a meeting. She didn't tell you?" He asked now sounding worried.
Wait my mother called him? She was no longer Queen and couldn't call upon the other realms for a meeting that I knew nothing about. What the hell was she up to? She needed to tread carefully because mother or not she was walking a thin line and going against the Queen was treason and the last time I checked I was the Queen and not her. I should have known she wouldn't just go away quietly. No, my mother always had to have control. No wonder my father left her crazy ass.
"I don't know what's going on Kingston, but I didn't call you or set up any meeting."
"I kind of figured that part out because I know you would have just called me directly or well at least I hoped you would."
"Of course, I would."
"I don't know what's going on, but I will be there tomorrow."
"Kingston you don't need to come here," I said in a pleading voice. Hoping he wouldn't show up. I did miss him but with Jayden being here and Tobias I had enough to deal with.
"It's a summons Jayla I can't just ignore that. It's as if you don't want to see me. Did our night together mean nothing to you?" He said with sadness in his voice.
