Utahime's eyes slowly opened as she felt her sleep being disturbed by movement beside her. She turned her head to see her husband standing up and prepare himself to get dressed, before looking to her other side and seeing the sunlight shining through the windows. Unbeknownst to her, the sounds made by her movements alerted her lover.
"Morning", he said with a smile. "Satoru...", began Utahime, sitting up and rubbing her eyes. "Why are you up so early?" "Is there anything wrong with it?", asked the white haired man. "Or were you expecting...?"
Utahime just stared groggily at Satoru. She knew what he was going to say next. He was going to mention the fact that whenever she woke up, he was still in bed with her, awake and smiling at her just to give her morning a good start, as he would put it. "You wanna join me?", asked Satoru. "In what?", asked his wife.
"I want to show Koichi around his new home." Utahime looked at Satoru confused. "That's it?" "What? He's living here now. Might as well get it into his brain the basics of the place. Where everything is and all that."
"Satoru, he was just recently born. He's not at an age yet where he can start processing things." Utahime just stared at her husband after saying all that, watching him chuckle slightly. She sighed. Satoru was happy to be a dad. Excited, even. In a way, he just wanted to have a reason to be with his brand new son.
"Give me a minute", said the scar faced woman as she got out of bed. "I'll go start making breakfast", said Satoru as he walked out the room and made his way to the kitchen. Utahime ran a hand through her messy hair and stretched her arms, which was when her attention went to the crib in the corner of the room. She stood up and walked up to it, and looked at the tiny bundle in it.
The baby, Koichi, was born only three days ago, and had to stay a bit in the hospital, only finally coming to his new home the previous day. Utahime couldn't help but chuckle, realizing what was in store for her: adjusting to sleepless nights and constant fussing. Of course she wouldn't be alone. She had Satoru, who had taken to fatherhood with boundless energy. Too much energy, to be honest.
Koichi stirred, a soft coo escaping his lips. His eyes opened, landing on his mother towering before him. "Good morning, sweetie." Utahime reached down and picked her son up, cradling him in her arms. "Guess what? There's someone in the kitchen who can't wait to meet you." Koichi let out another coo, almost as if he was responding to what his mother was saying.
In the kitchen, Satoru shook the last slice of tamagoyaki off of the spatula onto the plate, which was on a tray that he moved to the table, next to another tray with the same food. Just then, Utahime walked into the room, holding her and her husband's child. "Good morning", he said, walking over to the two members of his family. Utahime walked to the table and took a seat.
The white haired man took a seat next to his wife. "How'd you sleep?", asked Satoru. "Much better than I did in the hospital", replied Utahime. "I know what you mean", said her husband. "I missed having you here." Utahime smiled at the man. Sure, being in the hospital meant having some time away from her husband and his annoying, childish antics, but at the same time, although she won't admit it out loud, especially to the man she married, it did make things pretty boring. So yes, she was more than happy to be home.
Koichi stirred in his mother's arms. "Someone else needs his breakfast", said Satoru. Utahime opened the chest area of her gown, moving her son near her breast to feed him. Satoru couldn't stop looking. He just wanted to give his son the biggest hug imaginable. But he restrained himself, not wanting to interrupt the child's feeding time. He picked up a fork and used it to scoop a piece off of his wife's tamagoyaki, holding it close to her face for her to eat. "Thanks", she said after she popped the food into her mouth.
"You're welcome", said Satoru. He watched as his son fed, his eyes full of admiration. The feelings inside of him felt surreal to him. He couldn't believe that the tiny human before him was born from him and his beautiful wife, a combination of the love they have had for each other over the years since they started dating. He couldn't wait to see where things went further from here. "Are you going to eat?", asked Utahime. "I'm sure you want to show Koichi around as soon as possible." Satoru chuckled, then took a bite of his breakfast.
. . .
"And over here we have the courtyard", said Satoru, pointing out the aforementioned location to his son that was in his arms. "When you're older, you can come out here to play. And I might even train you with your cursed energy when that comes around." The white haired man then walked over to a small pond, where he crouched down.
"Those are koi fish. Kinda like our pets." "And one day, you can help us feed them", said Utahime. "Oh, you're joining in now?", asked Satoru with a smirk. Utahime turned her head to the tree at the centre of the courtyard.
"What about that?" "Oh that? That there is a tree. The good thing about it is the best sleep you can ever have while sitting under it", explained Satoru. "That actually happens a lot at your age especially." "Which is what I've been saying", said Utahime, rolling her eyes. She then wiggled her finger in front of Koichi's face.
"But your dad doesn't listen." "Hey, I listen", said Satoru. "About fifty percent of the time, yes", chuckled Utahime. "Still means I listen." "And even then you're bad at it." Satoru grumbled at the sight of his wife's smug grin.
"Jokes aside, remember to always listen to your mom", said the white haired man to his son. "Best not to take after me." "Right. Because one of you is already enough for me to handle", said Utahime. Satoru chuckled, then walked over to the wall of bamboo. "This is bamboo. Really strong stuff. Pandas eat them."
"Little does he know we actually know a panda", said Utahime. "That's right. He talks too", Satoru added. "You're gonna love him." The man walked to the next spot in the courtyard. "This right here is a veranda. When's she doesn't feel like being under a tree, your mom will sit here to read." "It's nice and quiet", said the aforementioned woman. Satoru leaned his head in close to Koichi. "Actually, I think it's to get away from me."
"I heard that", said Utahime. "Please stop trying to get our son on your side for everything." "Ok, ok, I'll stop", chuckled Satoru. "Now, next we have...." Satoru stopped himself upon realizing that there was nothing else in the courtyard to show his infant son. "Well, we could head back inside and...." "Show him the same things he's already seen?", asked Utahime. "You showed him everything in the house, Satoru. Everything."
Satoru chuckled in embarrassment. "Wow. Must've lost some track of time." The white haired man's wife hugged his arm. "Let's just sit down. It is a beautiful day out." Satoru lifted Koichi so that they were face to face.
"Would you like that?" The infant cooed, prompting his mother to lift her hand and stroke his cheek with her finger. "How about that tree of ours that's been hyped up?" "Perfect idea", said Satoru. The family of three walked to the centre of their courtyard, where they sat themselves down under the tree. Utahime leaned into her husband, looking down at their son. "Still can't believe that this is us now. Parents and everything."
"And after everything we've gone through, we deserve it. You deserve all this", said Satoru. His wife looked at him and placed a soft kiss on his cheek. "Not as much as you do." Satoru returned his wife's kiss on her head. "I promise, Utahime. I will be a great dad and take great care of our son." "No need to promise me that. Just look at today. You worked to give our son an unforgettable experience." Satoru smiled. "I did, didn't I?" "And I promise to do that too. To give Koichi a home he can be happy in", said Utahime.
Satoru smiled. "We'll do it together. Like we always have. For us, and now for our son." Utahime smiled, and leaned in to give another kiss to her lover, this time on his lips, which he returned as well. After separating, they both looked down at their son.
"Welcome to your new home, Koichi", said Utahime.
