The sun was setting, casting an orange colour on the sky onto the school known as Jujutsu High. Yuta was in the courtyard, stretching out all the soreness in his limbs he's obtained throughout the day. His moment alone came to an end when he heard a pair of footsteps behind him, turning around to see that they were coming from a certain green haired girl. "Hey", he greeted with a friendly smile. Maki couldn't help but return the smile, and lifted her hand to wave.

As soon as she was close, he reached in for hug, which embarrassed her. "What's this for?", she asked. "Thought you could use one after today", replied her boyfriend. "And why, exactly?" "I mean, fighting cursed spirits has to be tough, right? Plus you looked a little tense when you did it." "I was fighting off cursed spirits. Of course I was tense, which is more than I can say for you." Yuta pulled away from the hug and looked at her confused. "What is that supposed to mean?"

"I don't know how you do it", began Maki. "You fight these things like you don't even know what's on the line. And then by some dumb luck, you actually manage to win against them." "Luck? I don't know if I'd call it that", said Yuta. "Is this about you not getting enough kills today? Look, you shouldn't be too hard on yourself." Maki crossed her arms and looked to the side. Yuta chuckled and hugged her again, even placing a soft kiss on her head.

"Plus, haven't you maybe pushing yourself too hard? Don't you think it's probably caught up?" Maki pushed out the hug and glared at Yuta. "I am not like that. I can still kick your ass if I wanted to. Easily." Yuta sighed. There it was. His girlfriend's pride born from her determination. The same determination that he fell in love with. "Is that so?", he asked. "Oh you don't think I can do it? Let's have a go. Right now", said the green haired girl. "Let's even make wager. If I win, you buy and bring me lunch for a whole week", she continued, poking her finger into his chest.

Yuta couldn't help but let out a chuckle. "Ok. If that's what you want." "What about you?", asked Maki. "What'll you get if you win?" "Do I need to have something?" "I need you to go all out on me, so yeah. I need you to have some motivation. So what's on the line for you?"

Yuta looked up to the sky at nothing in particular, thinking about what his answer could be to his lover's question. He did like the sound of the situation currently handed to him: a bet where the winner of a one on one sparring match can have any request fulfilled without any decline. And knowing Maki, Yuta had just the thing in mind for her specifically. "If I win...", he began. "We have to hold hands. In public, and for everyone to see." Maki froze. She loved Yuta, yes, but she wasn't big on public displays of affection.

"And also let me hug you out in public. And kissing", Yuta added. Maki smirked. "Alright. Training field. Now."

. . .

Yuta and Maki stood far across from each other, in battle stances with weapons in hand. "So, how does this start?", asked Yuta with a cocky grin. Maki remained silent, only for a second before she closed the distance between the two of them. She moved in a blur, catching Yuta by surprise. He barely had time to raise his blade before it collided with the blade of her naginata.

The force of the impact pushed the young man a bit back, his feet skidding across the dirt and leaving a dust trail. Maki moved back, and proceeded to swing her weapon around, forcing Yuta to duck, block, and dodge. He was actually beginning to panic a bit. Eventually, her manoeuvre switched to a thrust, where Yuta moved to the side and grabbed the naginata by the staff.

With a tug of his arm, he pulled his lover close until the tips of their noses touched. He smiled, and she blushed tremendously. She broke free from the constraint and moved back, then pointed the polearm at him with a glare. "You better not be holding back." Yuta looked at Maki's naginata, then at his katana. "We're using pretty sharp weapons. We could actually end up hurting...."

The young man couldn't finish his sentence before Maki dashed towards him again, jabbing the bottom of her naginata's pole into his stomach. "Less talking, more fighting." She twirled her weapon in her hands until the blade of it swished right past Yuta's cheek just as he moved back to dodge. It was then that he felt a sting on said cheek, making him brush his fingers against it and see that Maki managed to make cut.

This distracted him long enough for Maki to run towards him again, leaping into the air to slash down towards him. He lifted his katana just in time to block the naginata overhead, the force of the impact making him drop onto one knee. The weight of Maki's weapon lightened, and that was when Yuta decided to strike. He turned the tables on the girl, swinging and thrusting one after the other, making her the one to be blocking and dodging.

The fight had reached a quick halt when Yuta's one blow ended up cutting Maki's shoulder. His eyes widened and his demeanour went from combative to concerned. "Maki! Oh crap, I am so sorry! Are you okay?! Are you...."

Maki tried to land a punch, but Yuta turned and pulled her arm over his shoulder, lifting her up and throwing her over himself. Yuta looked down, more fear on his face, at his girlfriend lying on the ground.

"Fine. You win", she said while sitting up. Yuta gently grabbed her and looked at her shoulder. "It's fine. I've had worse." She lifted her hand and gently rubbed the cut on his cheek with her thumb.

"I was pretty reckless, wasn't I?", he asked. "Not really", said Maki. "But I cut your shoulder." Maki groaned in annoyance. "That's what makes you get it?" "Well... yeah", said Yuta. "I don't want you to get hurt. I'd rather take all the hits just to make sure you're safe." Maki's face reddened, and she flicked her boyfriend's forehead. "Okay, don't get mushy now." Yuta suddenly pulled her into a hug. "I am sorry about your shoulder though. Honestly." The girl sighed, and returned the hug. "It's okay. I forgive you."

The couple pulled out of the hug. "So who wins?", asked Yuta. "You did", said Maki. "Fair and square." Yuta looked up in thought, then smiled back at Maki. "Then that would mean...." Maki blushed. "Yeah. Don't need to remind me." The young man leaned in and pecked the girl's lips.

"I'll still buy you something." "But you didn't lose", said Maki. "I know I didn't. But I feel like getting you something." Maki blushed even more, leaning in closer so that her head was against her boyfriend's chest. "Why are you like this?" Yuta could only chuckle and hug her back, placing a kiss on top of her head.

The green haired girl intertwined her hand with his. "Let's go." Yuta stepped back, hand still connected with Maki's, gently pulling her to walk right next to him. She looked down at their hands and hid a blush. She wasn't going to admit it out loud, but she quite liked holding his hand.
