As the days passed, Liv and Cayde settled into their new rhythm—balancing the chaos of their lives as Guardians with the growing love they shared. Though the Tower bustled with activity and the Vanguard's responsibilities continued to weigh on them, they carved out moments of peace together, a stark contrast to the constant battles they faced.

But even with their deepening connection, the looming threat of Cayde's fate still hung over Liv. It was a shadow that neither of them could ignore, no matter how much they wanted to believe they had all the time in the world.

Zavala had called for a meeting early that morning. A disturbance had been detected on Io, and the fireteam was once again tasked with investigating. Liv and Cayde found themselves preparing for yet another mission, this time alongside Faelyn and a few other trusted Guardians.

Despite the urgency of the situation, Liv couldn’t help but feel a sense of calm with Cayde by her side. They had become nearly inseparable since their confession, working even more seamlessly as a team.

The dropship hummed quietly as it soared toward Io, the planet’s barren surface growing larger beneath them. Liv sat beside Cayde, their arms lightly brushing, a small comfort before they stepped back into the fray.

“Another day, another adventure,” Cayde quipped, flashing her a grin. “You ready for this?”

Liv smirked. “You asking because you’re worried about me, or are you just trying to impress me?”

Cayde leaned closer, his voice low and playful. “Maybe a little bit of both.”

Before Liv could respond, the dropship touched down, the hatch opening to reveal the desolate landscape of Io. The familiar sight of golden structures and harsh, rocky terrain greeted them as they stepped out into the warm light of the sun.

“Let’s make this quick,” Faelyn said, adjusting his bow as he scanned the horizon. “The disturbance is centered near the Pyramidion. We need to find out what the Taken are up to.”

The mention of the Taken made Liv tense. They had fought these enemies countless times, but each encounter was a reminder of how dangerous the forces of the Darkness truly were. Still, with Cayde beside her, she felt like she could handle anything.

The team moved out, their weapons at the ready as they navigated the landscape. The tension was palpable, but as they approached the location of the disturbance, Cayde nudged Liv with his elbow, breaking the silence.

“After this, how about we grab dinner?” he asked casually, as if they weren’t marching into the heart of danger.

Liv raised an eyebrow, a smile tugging at her lips. “You really know how to pick your moments, huh?”

“Just keeping things interesting,” Cayde replied with a wink. “What do you say?”

Liv’s smile widened. “You’re on.”

As they neared the entrance to the Pyramidion, the ground trembled beneath their feet. The air grew thick with the telltale signs of the Taken—darkness swirling in the distance, warping reality as they closed in.

“They’re here,” Faelyn muttered, drawing his bow. “Get ready.”

The first wave of Taken appeared without warning, their twisted forms moving in jerky, unnatural motions as they charged toward the fireteam. Liv’s pulse quickened as she drew her sword, falling into step beside Cayde as they faced the incoming horde.

“Let’s show them what we’re made of,” Cayde said, his hand cannon flashing as he fired at the nearest Taken. His voice held its usual bravado, but Liv could sense the subtle undercurrent of focus and intensity.
