Darkness surrounded Liv. She felt weightless, as if floating in the void, her mind clouded by the overwhelming grief that had torn her apart. The last thing she remembered was Cayde—the moment he had flickered away, the moment she had felt his warmth vanish forever.

She wanted to stay there, lost in the emptiness, hoping that somehow she could be with him again. But then, through the haze, a soft, familiar light began to glow, illuminating the darkness.

The Traveler.

Liv opened her eyes, blinking against the blinding light that filled her vision. The massive orb loomed above her, its presence both comforting and intimidating, a silent watcher over all that had transpired. She felt the weight of its gaze upon her, and then, without warning, a voice echoed in her mind—deep, resonant, like the voice of the universe itself.

"You have changed the path of fate. What was meant to happen has been undone. You saved him."

Tears welled up in Liv’s eyes again at the mention of Cayde. The Traveler’s words hit her with the weight of the truth she had fought so hard for. She had saved him. She had changed his fate. But at what cost?

"Yet time is fragile," the Traveler continued, its voice softer now, almost gentle. "The threads you pulled have begun to fray. The universe, the very fabric of reality, was strained by your actions."

Liv swallowed hard, her heart pounding in her chest. She had felt it—seen it—everything unraveling before her eyes. She had felt the world slipping apart, piece by piece. And in the end, she had lost the one thing that mattered most.

"You did what no Guardian could," the voice said, echoing in her soul. "But now, it is time for you to return."

Liv's heart skipped a beat, confusion clouding her thoughts. Return? Return to where? She tried to speak, to ask, but before she could form the words, the light grew brighter, more intense. The Traveler's voice seemed to wrap around her, as if it were cradling her in a final, comforting embrace.

"Goodbye, Olivia."

And then, the light consumed her.

Liv gasped as her eyes flew open, her chest heaving with the sudden rush of air. She blinked, disoriented, as the world around her came into focus. She was lying in her own bed—her real bed, in her apartment, the familiar smell of her room wrapping around her like a blanket.

She sat up slowly, her heart still racing, her mind spinning with confusion. The sheets were tangled around her legs, her body drenched in sweat, as if she had just woken from a nightmare. But it wasn’t just a dream.

It couldn’t be.

Liv threw off the covers and scrambled out of bed, her legs shaky beneath her. She looked around, her eyes darting to every corner of the room, trying to make sense of where she was—how she was here.

Her desk. Her books. Her apartment. Everything was exactly as she had left it, exactly as it had been before. Before Cayde. Before the missions. Before everything.

Her heart pounded in her chest as she walked to the window, pulling back the curtains to reveal the city outside—her city. The familiar skyline, the bustling streets below. The real world.

For a long moment, she just stood there, staring out at the world she had known her whole life, her mind racing. Had it all been a dream? A long, vivid dream that had felt so real? The missions, the fighting, the time with Cayde—had any of it actually happened?

She pressed a hand to her forehead, her fingers trembling as doubt crept into her mind. It had felt so real. The weight of Cayde’s presence, his voice, his touch… but now it all seemed to fade, like distant memories slipping away.

No, she thought, shaking her head. It had to have been real. It was real.

But the longer she stood there, the more uncertain she became. Maybe it had all been in her head—a wild, vivid dream that her mind had created.

Her fingers absentmindedly traced the edge of her jeans pocket, and she felt something small and solid there. Frowning, Liv reached into her pocket, her breath catching as her fingers brushed against something unfamiliar. She pulled it out, her heart stopping as she stared at the object in her hand.

It was a small, intricate metal token—one she had never seen before, yet it was unmistakable. The Vanguard insignia etched into the surface, and a small, barely visible engraving on the edge. She turned it over, her hands trembling as she saw the single word scratched into the metal.

"Ace."

Her heart clenched painfully in her chest. It was Cayde’s. She knew it. She had seen him carry this very token, flipping it between his fingers during their time together. It had always been a part of him.

Tears welled up in her eyes as the reality of it all hit her like a tidal wave. It wasn’t a dream. It had all been real.

Cayde.

Everything they had been through, everything she had fought for—it had truly happened. And now, all she had left was this small token, this final reminder of him. She clutched it tightly in her hand, her knuckles white as she pressed it to her chest, feeling the weight of the loss all over again.

But somehow, amidst the heartbreak, there was also comfort.

Cayde was gone, but he had left her this. A piece of him, a part of their story, to carry with her into whatever came next. He had kept his promise, in his own way. He was still with her.

Liv sank down onto the edge of her bed, the token held tightly in her hand, tears slipping silently down her cheeks. The weight of everything—of all they had gone through, of all they had lost—pressed down on her, but there was also a sense of peace, of closure.

She had saved him. She had changed his fate.

And now, somehow, she had to find a way to move forward in her world, knowing that the love and the fight had been real, even if it was all behind her now.

Liv looked down at the token again, a bittersweet smile tugging at her lips.

“Goodbye, Cayde.”

As the sun rose outside her window, Liv held the token close, the light catching the metal as the first rays of morning warmed the room. The world outside was moving on, and now, so would she—carrying the memory of him with her, always.

And maybe, just maybe, that was enough.
