The quiet of the Tower was interrupted by Liv’s restless sleep. She tossed and turned, her mind racing even in the safety of Cayde’s room. She had fought so hard, done everything to save him. They had finally found peace. Yet, in her dreams, something dark and ominous lurked.

In the middle of the darkness, a voice cut through, powerful and echoing—The Traveler.

“Guardian…” The voice reverberated, pulling her deeper into the dream. Liv stood on a crumbling platform in the middle of an endless void, looking up to see the Traveler hanging above, casting its light across the horizon.

“You have changed the course of fate,” it spoke, its tone both awe-inspiring and filled with a note of warning. “By saving Cayde, you have altered what was meant to be.”

Liv felt a chill run through her, though she tried to remain resolute. “I did what I had to do. He didn’t deserve to die.”

“Indeed,” the Traveler continued, its presence overwhelming. “But now, the universe—the timeline—has become unstable. The thread of destiny has been pulled, and now, it unravels.”

Liv’s heart dropped. “Unravels… what do you mean?”

The world around her began to shift, the platform beneath her feet fracturing as she witnessed time itself crack like glass. For a brief moment, she saw glimpses of her fireteam, of Zavala and Ikora—then, horrifyingly, she saw people, Guardians, civilians, dissolving into dust, as if erased from existence.

“By saving one life,” the Traveler spoke, its voice distant now, as if it was fading, “many others may be lost. You must make a choice. Restore the balance, or risk losing everything.”

Liv stood frozen, watching as more and more people disappeared from the universe she had fought to protect. The dream began to break apart, and she was left with the Traveler’s final words echoing in her ears.

“The thread of fate cannot be cut without consequence, Guardian. Be prepared to face what comes.”

Liv jolted awake, her breath coming in ragged gasps. The room was still, the soft hum of the Tower providing a false sense of security. Cayde was asleep beside her, completely unaware of the nightmare she had just lived through. But it didn’t feel like a nightmare. It felt like a warning.

As quietly as possible, Liv slipped out of bed and stepped out onto the balcony. The cold night air hit her, but she didn’t care. Her mind was racing. The Traveler’s words were haunting her—“You must make a choice.”

She looked out over the Last City, watching the lights twinkle in the distance. For now, everything looked normal. But Liv knew that it wasn’t. The Traveler had shown her a future where everything unraveled. She had saved Cayde, but at what cost? Was it all truly falling apart because of her?

Liv clenched the railing, the cool metal grounding her in the moment. She couldn’t lose everything she fought for. Not after coming so far. She had to fix this, somehow.

The door behind her opened with a soft hiss, and Cayde stepped out, his usual smirk softening when he saw the look on her face.

“Hey,” he said, moving next to her. “What’s going on? You okay?”

Liv hesitated, then turned to him, her expression serious. “I had a dream... the Traveler spoke to me.”

Cayde raised an eyebrow. “The Traveler? Now that’s a rare occurrence.”

“It warned me, Cayde,” Liv continued, her voice filled with tension. “It said by saving you, I’ve changed the timeline... and now everything’s starting to unravel. People are disappearing—dissolving—and it’s because I altered your fate.”
