DUKE
I was about to send Kara a text message to tell her that I'll be staying at the farm, for now, but I realized that I left my phone at the couch a while ago. I can't return anymore. I don't want Vlance to see me look like a crap.
I started the engine and drove my way to the farm. I woke up the next morning. I took a bath, wore a comfortable long-sleeved Camisa de Chino, paired with an old but neat trousers... I will be passing by a muddy ground later; So, I should be wearing boots.
The Nipa house I build could stand the test of time; I made sure of that. I even consulted an engineer before contructing Vlance's dream house. Its resilient design is made out of palm tree wood but the engineering hold steady against forces that would topple all-from an enormous storm surge barrier to be able to withstand an earthquake or whatever calamity may come.
I start the day by streching my body for few minutes and took the dogs with me for a walk. Upon our return, I saw a car was parked by the entrance. The dogs immediately smell the unfamiliar scent from the car and so they became highly alert trying to find where the sent was coming.
They started barking when they saw someone standing by the Nipa hut as they rush towards her. I immediately recognized her familiar figure- It was Vlance. Even thought I was limping, I rushed with all my power to her rescue before the dogs could attack her.
I whistled with powerful authority and fortunately, the dogs were trained well. They stop but still on guard, as if they were just waiting for my command.
I just couldn't say a word. I was overwhelmed by her presence. I miss her so much!
"Hi!" she greeted me like she just met me for the first time. She had completely forgotten about me.
"I came here thinking my daughter was her but she just called, telling me that she just went somewhere. I can't leave right now because my car can't run and my phone runs out of power. Can I stay here for awhile, as I wait for someone to pick me?"
I was so embarassed right now. I wasn't prepared. I looked messed up. I was speechless that all I could do is passed by her, holding my forearm crutch, as I entered our dream house, with my limping leg.
She followed me.
"There's an outlet inside that room." I gave her the extra charger.
"Thank you." She smiled and then she entered the room which I pointed.
I checked on the time. She probably haven't had her breakfast yet. So I quickly went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for her. I cooked her the typical breakfast of every normal Filipino- Sinangang, Longganisa, eggs, tomatoes, and her favorite Hot chocolate which I processed organically; From the Cocoa beans which I harvested at the backyard to brewing it, serving it to her with all my devotion.
I carried the tray, carefully, with only my one free hand. Upon reaching the dinning area, I was surprise to see her already eating the left over.
She looks so starving and I hate myself for preparing the food late. She got startled when she noticed me.
"Malamig na 'yan. Eat this instead." I put down the tray on the table and left her. I want her to enjoy her food alone without me watching her. I'm sure, she got embarassed after I caught her sneaking the leftover.
I went outside. The dogs were waiting for me, and then they followed me. I took an extra gallon of petrol from my stock and went to where her car was parked. I wanted her to stay more longer with me but, I don't want to be selfish. I filled enough gas in the tunk and after, I returned.
