It had only been a day since Aayansh left for Delhi, yet the house felt different without him.
As much as I tried to push the thoughts aside, his absence was heavy—too heavy. The silence left by his departure made me realize just how much space he had begun to occupy in my mind.
My fingers absentmindedly played with the delicate diamond anklet he had given me. Every time I touched it, I could almost feel the warmth of his hands as he fastened it. Tum zaroori ho. (You are necessary.) His words lingered in my mind, stirring something deep within me that I wasn’t ready to confront.
A soft knock on the door interrupted my thoughts.
“Bhabhi, you’re awake already?” Aksu’s bright voice cut through the quiet as she peeked into the room.
I turned to see her standing in the doorway, her vibrant yellow suit matching the energy she always seemed to radiate. She flashed me a mischievous grin as she bounced into the room.
“Haan, thoda jaldi uth gayi thi,” (Yes, I woke up a little early) I replied with a small smile, still lost in the haze of my thoughts.
“Good!” she exclaimed, clapping her hands together. “That means you have time to let me make you look like a queen for tonight’s party!”
“Party?” I raised an eyebrow.
Akshu nodded enthusiastically. “Of course! It’s the big family celebration tonight. You’re the Rathore bahu now. We can’t let you show up in anything less than stunning!”
I shook my head, laughing at her excitement. “Akshu, I don’t need anything fancy. Something simple will do.”
“Simple?” Akshu gasped, her eyes widening in mock horror. “No way! You’re not getting away with ‘simple’ tonight. Bhai isn’t here to stop me from turning you into a princess.”
Before I could protest, she grabbed my hand and led me to her room, where an array of beautiful lehengas and sarees were spread across the bed. My eyes widened at the sight—each piece was more stunning than the last.
“You brought all of this for me?” I asked, surprised.
“Of course!” Askhu beamed. “You’re part of the family now, and I couldn’t let you wear anything boring to your first big family party, could I?”
She picked up a gorgeous lavender lehenga, its silver embroidery catching the light.
“This one,” she declared, holding it up. “You’ll look absolutely breathtaking in this.”
I hesitated. “Isn’t it a bit much?”
Akshu rolled her eyes dramatically. “Too much? No way! Bhabhi, you’re married to the Aayansh Singh Rathore. You have to dress the part. Besides,” she added with a wink, “Bhai will definitely regret leaving you behind when he sees how amazing you look.”
