The morning sunlight filtered through the large bedroom window, casting a soft glow across the room. I rolled over, squinting against the light, only to find Aayansh already awake, lying on his side with a smirk on his face as he watched me.
“Good morning, Mrs. Rathore,” he murmured, his voice still carrying the warmth of sleep.
“Good morning,” I replied, stretching lazily and giving him a teasing smile. “Enjoying the view?”
He shrugged, that playful spark lighting up his eyes. “It’s not every morning I get to watch you drool on my pillow.”
I gasped, throwing a pillow at him as he laughed, catching it effortlessly. “I do not drool!”
“Oh really?” he teased, holding up a pretend smudge on his hand as evidence. “I guess you didn’t notice that cute little puddle you left.”
I rolled my eyes, laughing despite myself. “You’re impossible, Aayansh.”
He leaned closer, his voice a low murmur. “And yet, here you are. Stuck with me.”
I felt a warmth rise in my cheeks and quickly brushed it off with a smirk. “Guess I’ll just have to get used to your teasing, then.”
“Oh, you love it,” he said, flashing that confident smile of his. “Besides, I’m pretty sure you it, too.”
I tried to look unimpressed, crossing my arms. “Confident, are we?”
“Only because you keep proving me right.” He leaned even closer, his face mere inches from mine, his gaze softening as he whispered, “Admit it.”
Before I could respond, a loud bark from the foot of the bed startled us both. Max, apparently done waiting for attention, jumped up onto the bed, flopping down between us and wagging his tail as he nuzzled against Aayansh.
Aayansh laughed, reaching over to ruffle Max’s fur. “Seems like he’s jealous.”
“Good. Then he can protect me from all your teasing,” I said, sticking my tongue out playfully.
Aayansh grinned, shaking his head as he got out of bed. “Fine, you win this round. But be warned, Sunshine—I always come back stronger.”
I grinned at him
Come on,” he murmured, “we’ve got a whole day ahead. And I’m sure the family’s already wondering why we’re late for breakfast.”
I laughed, watching him disappear into the bathroom, his challenge hanging in the air. This playful side of him was something I was still getting used to, but every moment like this made me feel more at home with him.
*********"
A few minutes later, we headed downstairs together, where the entire family was already gathered for breakfast. Papa sat at the head of the table, looking as dignified as ever, and Maa was serving fresh parathas, her smile warm and welcoming. Harshit and Aditya were playfully arguing over who would get the last cup of chai, while Akshara tried to mediate with a laugh.
