AUTHOR POV
During the meeting, as employees took turns presenting their work and representatives from potential partner firms pitched their collaboration ideas, Aayansh was completely lost in the thoughts of his wife.
“Sir, what do you think of this project?”
One of the representatives broke his reverie, looking at Aayansh, who was dreamily smiling at… well, nothing.
The room exchanged amused glances and hushed whispers spread quickly.
Completely unaware of his surroundings, Aayansh was immersed in his own thoughts, grinning like a lovesick teenager.
“Sir seems extra happy today, doesn’t he?”
“Yeah, I heard he’s married now. Do you think he’ll increase our salaries?”
One of the employees laughed. “Ha! Good luck with that. I mean, sure, but he’d probably send you to hell first if he heard you!”
The quiet laughter continued, with each person sneaking a glance at their boss, who was still in la-la-land.
Just then, Rishi stepped into the meeting room and froze. His usually composed, no-nonsense best friend was smiling like a fool while his employees exchanged amused looks behind his back. Rishi raised an eyebrow, smirking as he slammed his palm on the table.
“What’s going on here?”
The loud sound jolted Aayansh, making him snap back to reality. He looked around, still dazed, and quickly sat up straighter, realizing he was, in fact, still in the office.
"Have all the presentations been given already?” Rishi asked, his tone serious.
Aayansh’s eyes widened as he glanced around, finally registering that he’d zoned out through the entire presentation. Swallowing, he regained his usual poise and announced, “You’re all dismissed. I’ll review the project proposals later.”
As everyone began packing up, Rishi leaned over with a smirk. “Imagine what Saanvi would say if she knew about your daydreaming in the middle of a meeting.”
Aayansh paled. “Oh no, no, please! Don’t tell her, Rishi. She’s already tired of this habit of mine. If she finds out, I’m done for. Forget entering the bedroom; she’ll banish me from my own wing!”
Laughing, Rishi stuck his tongue out teasingly before leaving the meeting room.
For the rest of the day, Aayansh made a desperate attempt to stay focused, but his mind seemed to have a mind of its own these days, drifting away whenever he thought of Saanvi. By the end of the workday, he decided he’d had enough.
Striding outside, he spotted his car and his usual entourage of guards waiting. The staff watched, intrigued, as their usually strict boss was heading home early.
“I’ll drive today. Just follow along,” he announced, surprising his driver and guards as he hopped into the driver’s seat and took off, leaving them scrambling to follow him.
As he sped away, the usually stoic Aayansh felt an unusual burst of energy, one that only seemed to grow as he got closer to home.
