Lilith's heart pounded even harder at the thought. If anyone could help her understand this, it would be Dumbledore. He had always seemed to know more than he let on, and after last night, she trusted him in a way she hadn't before.
With newfound determination, the girl stood up and quickly did her morning routine. Finally dressed in casual clothing, the cool stone floor of the dormitory grounded her as she quietly slipped out of the room. The castle was silent as she made her way down the spiraling staircases and through the empty corridors. Her thoughts swirled with uncertainty, but one thing was clear: she needed answers.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, she reached the entrance to Dumbledore's office. The towering stone gargoyle stood before her, motionless. For a moment, Lilith hesitated. Would he even be awake at this hour? But before she could second-guess herself, the gargoyle shifted and moved aside, as though it had been expecting her. Taking a deep breath, she stepped forward and ascended the spiral staircase that led to the headmaster's office, her heart pounding with every step.
When she reached the top, she knocked gently on the door. A few moments later, the familiar, calm voice of Dumbledore echoed from inside.
"Come in, Miss Potter."
Lilith's hand trembled slightly as she opened the door and stepped inside. Dumbledore sat behind his desk, his kind blue eyes twinkling as he looked up from a stack of parchment.
"Good morning, Lilith," he said softly, gesturing for her to take a seat. "I had a feeling I might be seeing you sooner rather than later."
The small girl swallowed hard, trying to steady her nerves as she sat down. She wasn't sure where to begin or how much to say, but Dumbledore waited patiently, his gaze full of understanding.
Finally, she took a deep breath and spoke.
"I had a dream, Professor," she said quietly, her voice barely above a whisper. "And I think... I think it was more than that."
Dumbledore nodded, his expression gentle but serious. "Tell me about it," he said, leaning forward slightly, his hands folded on the desk.
Lilith hesitated for a moment, then began recounting the dream—her father's face, the explosion, the scream, the wardrobe, and the terrifying silence that followed. As she spoke, she felt the pressure of it all weight down on her, the emotions raw and overwhelming. When she finished, the room fell into a heavy silence.
Dumbledore didn't speak for a long moment, his gaze distant, as though he were carefully considering his words. Finally, he leaned back in his chair, his eyes meeting hers with a deep compassion.
