Ruhi sped down the highway, the wind whipping her hair into a frenzy. She felt alive, free from the constraints of her privileged life. The party lights gleamed in the distance, beckoning her.
As she stopped at a traffic signal, a police officer approached her. Ruhi, sensing trouble, tried to bribe him.
"Listen, officer, I'll give you 5,000 rupees. Just let me go," she whispered.
But before the officer could respond, a stern voice intervened.
"That's not how it works, young lady."
Ruhi turned to see ACP Pradyuman Thakur, his eyes narrowing as he took in the scene.
"Officer, what's going on here?" Pradyuman asked, his voice firm.
The junior officer shifted uncomfortably. "Nothing, sir. Just checking her license."
Pradyuman's gaze lingered on Ruhi's face before shifting to the scooty. "Is this vehicle registered to you?"
Ruhi hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. "It's my father's."
Pradyuman's expression remained neutral. "I see. And your license?"
Ruhi's hands trembled as she handed over her learner's permit.
Pradyuman's eyes widened. "You're not even 18, and you're driving alone at night? What's your name?"
"R-Ruhi," she stammered.
Pradyuman's gaze lingered on her face before he turned to the officer. "Constable, you should have booked her. Instead, you were willing to let her bribe you?"
The officer's face turned red as Pradyuman continued. "You'll assist the traffic police for the next two hours. Maybe that'll teach you responsibility."
Ruhi's face burned as she spent the next two hours directing traffic under Pradyuman's watchful eye.
As the hours passed, Pradyuman's expression softened slightly. Ruhi's diligence and willingness to learn impressed him.
Finally, he approached her. "Time's up. You've learned your lesson, I think."
Ruhi looked up, her eyes sincere. "Sir, I was wrong to try to bribe the officer. It won't happen again."
Pradyuman's expression softened further. "It's okay ,But remember, driving is a privilege, not a right. Be more responsible, and on the top of that overspeeding could have landed you to hospital "
He dropped Ruhi a few kilometers from her home, his expression stern but his eyes hinting at a newfound respect.
"Take care, Ruhi. And stay safe."
Ruhi nodded, still shaken but grateful. "Thank you, sir."
As she watched Pradyuman drive away, she had no idea that ACP Pradyuman Thakur was her brother Viren's best friend.
Pradyuman, too, remained unaware of Ruhi's connection to Viren. His mind preoccupied with the urgent call, he sped away into the night, leaving Ruhi to ponder the unexpected encounter.
