I hummed to music as I did my first week's worth of homework. There wasn't much, but more than previous years first weeks homework load. Whoa, that's a mouthful. Anyways, it was basically just a bunch of research and writing stuff that I won't bore you with.
There was a knock on my bedroom door that I hardly noticed, but nonetheless I heard it and told whoever it was to come in. I spun around in my desk chair and took out my earphones from my ears, "hey Roxy!" I was a little cheerful, but I didn't have a reason to be gloomy, so I didn't care.
"Hey, um Amara is dragging us to a party tonight." I inwardly groaned. Not again. "But I guess it's some kind of cool-people party because it's being held at Kit's house."
I raised my eyebrow, "you mean the Kit that set her up with Jake who has 'sadly' stolen Amara away from us?"
She chuckled at my choice of words and nodded, "she's picking us up in an hour so be ready."
"Do I get a choice - never mind." I stopped myself knowing fully well that when it comes to Amara, I don't get a choice. Which sometimes really sucks, but other times it brings great opportunity. Like once we met Jessie J at one of the events she forced us to go to. Which was awesome. Thinking about that is the only reason I have the motivation to go. Who will we meet this time?
Roxy left my room and I spun on my chair for a bit before deciding that I'd be better off getting ready now because Amara could show up earlier because she has done it before. She gets excited easily and Roxy and I suffer.
I took a quick shower and blow dried my hair before putting it up into a bun. I looked through my closet for a while till I found a dress that would make Amara happy. I finally decided on a dress that she had gotten me for my birthday last year so I put it on. It was a deep pink colour and made my waist look smaller than it actually was. I did my makeup then added some accessories before leaving my room to find that Roxy was also ready to go to the party. She was sitting on the couch eating a sandwich.
Roxy's dress was black and shorter than mine, but she was a couple inches shorter than me so it made more sense for her.
I sat down beside her just as our front door was opened and we heard Amara bound through it while screaming at us to get a move on. We both grabbed out phones and bags as we left the apartment. Amara drove, which always freaked me out so I tried to scroll on my phone and not watch the outside world for the terrors Amara brings.
When we got out of the car I looked up at the house, it was not huge but also not small. There was music coming from it, but it wasn't very loud from out here. Maybe its louder on the inside. From the loud groan that Roxy produced, I was guessing that she wasn't planning on staying very long. She wasn't a loud music party person, she was more of a sit down board game person. Even if her dress said otherwise.
We all went to the house and it was opened by the one and only Kit. He smiled and greeted each of us then pulled me aside as Amara dragged Roxy inside.
"Can I help you?" I asked really confused. Why did he pull me aside like this?
"Are you single?" Wow, that was really blunt of him. I just nodded my head and he smiled, "I want you to meet someone."
Uh oh. This can't be good. "I do not need you to play matchmaker for me too," I told him, and he just laughed.
"Trust me, I have a sixth sense for things like this," Kit told me and I frowned at him.
He grabbed my wrist and started to pull me through the crowd of people. He brought me into what looked like a living room with a bunch of guys and girls just sitting around. Kit let go of my hand and went to the couch to grab a guy who looked very uncomfortable with the girl who was on his lap. He actually looked relieved that Kit was here to help him escape from her.
Kit told him a few words and he looked like he was going to protest but before he could, Kit dragged him over to me. "Maire, meet Leo. Leo this is Maire!" With that he was gone and I got a better look at this Leo.
He had short, shaved, brown hair and a puppy dog face. The haircut and the face didn't really match because the haircut screamed he drove a motorcycle and the face said I bake lasagna for my mom every Sunday. He was clean shaven and wearing jeans and a black button-up top. Overall - very cute.
I shook the thoughts from my head and decided I'd better just get out of this guys way because telling from earlier, he didn't want to be meeting anyone at this party. "I'm sorry," I looked around so that it was anywhere but at his face. "I'll leave you alone."
I turned on my heel, fully prepared to leave this Leo guy alone and let him be. However, he grabbed my wrist and turned me back around to face him. But he pulled a little too hard and I ended up running into him. I ended up putting my free hand on his chest and slowly pushing myself backwards and mentally cursed. Why did I have to pick heels for this party?
I blushed, "sorry."
I took a step back and he didn't let go of my wrist, "Maire, right?" I nodded, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to come off as cold. Some people just throw themselves at me without a care, it gets tiring." We both chuckled and smiled at each other. "Do you want to talk somewhere else where there are less people?" He asked.
I smiled and nodded, "sure."
He was nice. I'll give him that.
Leo grabbed my hand and pulled me away much slower than Kit had until we were out in the backyard around the pool. There were hardly any people out here, mostly ones just making out or sitting around smoking.
Leo found a bench away from all of them on the side of the house and sat then sat me down beside him. "This better?" He asked.
I nodded and blushed a bit, "way better." Yea, way better where no one can find us and its darker so he can't see me blush. So much better.
We both looked at each other for a long time in silence, almost like we didn't know where to start. He started, and beamed at me, "so what do you do?"
"I'm still in school," I answered slowly. "I'm in an English degree, so I can do something with writing. What about you?" I did not want to just talk about myself.
"Well," he started to think. "I do some singing mostly, and a lot of travelling."
"Are you in Uni or...?" I trailed off trying to think of any other possibilities. What did he mean by mostly singing and travelling? Was he in a band? Kai was a drummer for a band, so maybe they were in the same band? I cursed myself, I needed to Google this band.
He shook his head and smiled, "I never even finished high school."
I laughed, "wow. I'd never think of you as a rebel."
For the rest of the night we just sat there and talked until Roxy texted me that she was leaving and if I wasn't coming with her I would have to take Amara back home. So I left with her.
I didn't want to admit it to myself, but I think I had a crush on Leo. He was a total sweetheart and actually seemed interested in what I had to say. After the initial awkwardness, the conversation flowed smoothly and we didn't run out of things to talk about. I even forgot to meet Jake, the guy Amara was seeing and supposed to introduce us to.
