26th of October 2024, today in Ukraine we see that Russian forces have been able to capture large sums of territory and have continued the pressure on Selydove as the Ukrainians try to escape from the pocket before they are destroyed by the near encirclement. The Donbas has seen some heaviest fighting and have seen some of the highest casualties of the entire war. Let's go to the Donbas for the time.
Today we shall start with Selydove because since yesterday, the Russians continue their efforts to push the Ukrainians out of the city with all the force they have. And now Ukraine now only controls no more then 30% of the settlement. And they continue to withdraw from their positions and the Russians at this rate should fully capture Selydove by Monday or Tuesday. And with the Ukrainian forces withdrawing slowly, this gives Russians the continued momentum they need to continue the offensive towards Pokorovsk. And with the Selydove fire pocket about to fall, the Ukrainians would need to create a new defensive line around Pokorovsk before the Russians gain anymore ground.
Then south to the offensive, the Russians also gained large sums of territory by the days and have made two semi encircled positions and have begun to pressure these settlements and the Russians still have strong momentum and are continuing the offensive into these settlements and Pokorovsk aswell. So not much more can be done for the Ukrainians as if Pokorovsk was to fall, it could decide the outcome of the war for the Ukrainians and would give Russia a huge foothold on the invasion and may possibly unhinge the war of attrition. But still to then the Ukrainians keep their defence and try everything they possibly can to prevent the Russian forces from capturing further territory. And have launched attacks to divert the Russians away but still the attempts are not effectively changing the Russian forces to divert any troops yet. But even so, the Russian army has suffered heavy losses in terms of both men and equipment but tanks and artillery are the biggest shortages for them and they lose many everyday to the Ukrainians.
