27th of October 2024, today there has been massive success for the Russian military and have been able to capture multiple targets today and also major advances around the Donbas region. And the momentum of the advances are continuing to intensify and also have increased their own pace.
Today we will start at the Donbas where we go specifically to the Pokorovsk offensive and today a massive Ukrainian defeat in the city of Selydove, after almost a week of semi encircled positions the Ukrainians have withdrawn from 95% of the city and are fighting in the last streets to the west. And also they have brought up reinforcements as losses begin to mount further by the day. The Selydove collapse has now worried the Ukrainian ministry of defence and have now issued warnings to civilians near the frontlines to begin evacuation as the frontline is predicted to move as now the Russian attention is fully on the large city of Pokorovsk.
And with this city under threat from Russian invasion, the Ukrainians must build strong defences and fortifications before the Russian forces arrive earlier. As if this city was to fall into Russian hands, this could very much decide the outcome for the war and probably unhinge the war of attrition. And as Russians continue to deploy more men and units to this sector, the Russians will likely take Pokorovsk by December. Just underneath the offensive, Russian forces have been able to make a small advance further west from the town of Maksymilyanivka and are rapidly approaching the town of Kurakhove and Ukrainians are prepared to defend the town and we may see some bloody battles here in the near future.
Moving just south of the Pokorovsk offensive, where we go to where the once strong town of Vuheldar once was, the Russian army had made significant gains in the eastern flank just north of Vuheldar. And they have made an advance of 35km² touching the outskirts of two towns called Shakhtarske and Novoukrainka. Then the second major advance just straight north of Vuheldar, the Russians had made a significant gain of 27km² and have reached fairly deep into the town of Bohoyavlenka. And have taken more than half of the town with tough resistance from the Ukrainian defenders. And the overall advance from this sector North of Vuheldar is roughly 52km².
