"You don’t have to take care of anyone,"Kaelis said softly, his voice a sleepy murmur as Kassia pulled the blanket up to cover him, tucking him in for the night. His little face, framed by the cozy fabric, looked up at her with earnestness. "You just need to be happy."
Kassia smiled down at him,her heart swelling with affection. "I think we all should take care of each other," she replied gently, brushing a stray strand of hair from his forehead as a cool breeze danced through the room, blowing her hair lightly.
As she sat there, she took a moment to appreciate their surroundings.Olympus was unlike their old home. The designs favored more curtains than windows and doors, lending an airy, almost ethereal quality to the space. She preferred having doors—there was a sense of privacy and security that came with them—but she had settled into this new life, finding comfort in the fact that it was not her old quarters.
Apollo had suggested giving Kaelis a room of his own in this grand place, perhaps Kassia's old quarter, but Kassia was uncertain if that was a good idea. She loved their son dearly and wanted to provide him with everything he needed, but the thought of him being in a place where she often felt like a visitor was unsettling. It wasn't as if she planned to make Olympus her permanent residence; her heart lay with Iora, the island sanctuary where she felt truly at home.
"Goodnight,mama,"Kaelis murmured,his eyes fluttering shut.
"Goodnight,my love,"Kassia whispered back, pressing a gentle kiss to his forehead before retreating from the room, walking back to the large balcony where she saw her siblings sitting together.
"May I join?."Kassia asked, but her husband was already holding her hand, brushing a gentle kiss over her knuckles.
"Of course, sister,"Athena replied, taking a leisurely sip of her wine. "You are always welcome."
Kassia sighed, glancing enviously at the wine in her sister's goblet. "I only wish I could drink."
"And why not?."Ares looked at her, genuinely perplexed. "Surely, being with child shouldn’t prevent you from enjoying a drink."
"Someone,"she replied with a huff, giving her husband a pointed look as his fingers traced a warm, protective circle over her stomach, "tricked me into promising I wouldn’t touch a drop until the baby is born. Now,I’m bound to that promise."
Apollo merely offered her a knowing smile. "You should have seen her wine collection," he teased. "It was practically a cellar of its own, larger than Dionysus’s."
Kassia glared at him, though the hint of a smile betrayed her amusement. "You exaggerate."
"I hope I am."He grinned,blowing her a playful kiss. "But I fear I’m not."
Even Athena joined in the gentle teasing. "I still don’t understand your obsession with wine,Kassia," she said, raising an eyebrow. "It clouds the mind, and you of all people know the havoc it can wreak."
