Millie

As I sipped my latte in the cozy café, the warm chatter of my two closest friends, Emi and Hannah, filled the air. Nostalgia and excitement mingled within me, knowing tomorrow we’d finally be flying back to Korea. Reuniting with family after so long brought a sense of comfort I didn’t realize I’d been craving.

“It’s crazy to think it’s been ten years since high school,” Emi remarked, stirring her drink thoughtfully. “I know, time flies!” Hannah added, her eyes sparkling with the memories we shared.

I smiled, lost in my thoughts before chiming in. “Speaking of family, my brother Jeon’s wedding is coming up soon.” Hannah nearly squealed. “Oh, right! Ava, isn’t it? Kim Taehyung’s sister!”

Her emphasis on the name didn’t go unnoticed. “The Kim Taehyung? The business mogul?” Emi asked, her brows rising in intrigue. I nodded. “The one and only. What’s weird is I’ve never actually met him. I only saw him once from afar when I was eighteen. He seemed… intimidating. Distant, even.”

“Interesting,” Hannah mused, leaning forward. “Maybe you’ll finally meet him at the wedding.” A mischievous grin spread across Emi’s face. “Who knows, Millie? Maybe you’ll end up marrying him after your brother does!”

“Woah, hold on,” I laughed, shaking my head. “Why would I marry him?” Emi burst into laughter. “I’m just saying! These things happen in dramas, don’t they?”

“You guys know about Mingyu and me. We’ve already planned our future together,” I reminded them, though I could feel their skepticism before they even spoke. “Hmm,” Hannah hummed, raising an eyebrow. “When’s the last time you actually saw Mingyu? Do you even know where he is or what he’s up to?”

I frowned. “I trust him, okay? Long-distance is hard, but he’s a great guy.” Emi sighed, her tone soft but firm. “We’re just looking out for you, Millie. Something about Mingyu doesn’t feel right.”

I raised my hand to stop the conversation. “Alright, enough about Mingyu. We have a flight to catch tomorrow, and I haven’t even started packing.” They exchanged a look but dropped the topic.

“Fine,” Hannah said with a smile. “But think about what we said, alright?” As we left the café, a strange feeling settled in my chest. Tomorrow’s trip was supposed to be about family, yet I couldn’t shake the sense that it would be much more than that.

The moment we stepped off the plane in Korea, the humid air wrapped around me like an old friend. Emi and Hannah hugged me tightly as we parted ways, promising to stay in touch.

“Text me as soon as you’re settled in!” Emi called out as they disappeared into the crowd. “Will do! Bye, guys!” I waved before heading toward my family’s car.

As I stepped into our home, the familiar scent of home-cooked meals filled the air. “Millie-ya!” my mom cried, rushing to embrace me.

“Eomma, Appa,” I said, wrapping them both in a hug. Their warmth was enough to make me realize how much I’d missed this place. “Welcome home, sweetie,” Appa said, his voice gruff with emotion.

Before I could respond, my brother Jungkook came barreling down the stairs, pulling me into a bear hug. “Missed you, headache,” he teased, ruffling my hair.

“Missed you too, Jeon!” I laughed, playfully pushing him away. We caught up for a while, chatting about his studies and my travels. But when I brought up his upcoming wedding, the room grew tense.

“Let’s talk about it tomorrow,” Eomma said, offering me a gentle smile. “You must be tired from the trip.” I nodded, sensing there was more to the story but choosing not to press. “Alright, goodnight.”

As I settled into my room, my phone buzzed with texts from Emi and Hannah.

Emi: Miss you already!
Hannah: Club tonight? 10 PM?
Me: I’m in!

After some rest, I got ready for a night out, slipping into one of my favorite dresses.

The club was alive with energy as I stepped inside. The pulsing music and flashing lights made it impossible to hear my own thoughts. I made my way to the bar, ordering a drink while waiting for Emi and Hannah.

As I turned to check my phone, I collided with someone, my dress snagging on their jacket. “Hey!” I exclaimed, looking down at the torn fabric. My gaze traveled up, landing on the man responsible.

Piercing eyes. Chiseled features. A presence so commanding I forgot my anger for half a second. Before I could say anything, he turned to leave, not sparing me an apology.

“Excuse me!” I grabbed his arm, forcing him to face me. “You just ruined my dress and didn’t even say sorry!” His expression was cold, his tone dismissive. “It’s just a dress. Buy another one.”

The audacity! “It’s not about the dress—it’s about your manners!” He sighed, clearly irritated. “Maybe you should watch where you’re going.”

I stood my ground, refusing to let him get away with his rudeness. But before I could respond, he pulled his arm free and disappeared into the crowd. Emi and Hannah arrived moments later, their expressions a mix of curiosity and concern.

“What happened?” Emi asked. “Some jerk ruined my dress,” I grumbled. “Looks like someone’s already making an impression,” Hannah teased, nudging me.

“Shut up,” I muttered, recounting the encounter. They listened, giggling at my frustration but eventually pulling me back into the night’s fun. As the music swirled around us, I couldn’t shake the image of his sharp gaze from my mind.

Little did she know, her encounter with Taehyung was only the beginning
