Millie

The sterile scent of antiseptic filled the hospital as I scrubbed in for my shift, the adrenaline familiar yet invigorating. Being a doctor wasn’t just my job; it was my purpose, my passion.

After reviewing patient charts, I prepared for the day ahead, already mentally running through treatments and consultations. Just then, a nurse entered the room, leading in a patient. My eyes widened in recognition as the blonde-haired man sauntered in, his hand cradled protectively.

It was him.

“You’re the one who was arguing with my friend yesterday, aren’t you?” I asked, arching an eyebrow. He gave a sheepish grin, his voice smooth and playful. “Guilty as charged. And you’re the beautiful woman who witnessed my questionable debate skills. Your name?”

I hesitated briefly before responding. “Jeon Millie.” I gestured for him to follow me into the examination room, his gaze lingering on mine.

“So, Doctor Millie, was it?” he said, his tone teasing. “I must say, you look even lovelier in scrubs than I imagined.” I rolled my eyes, suppressing a smile. “Let’s focus on your hand, Mr...?”

“Jimin,” he said with a sly grin. “And I’m happy to focus on anything that involves your expertise.” I shook my head, maintaining my professionalism despite his flirty demeanor. “What seems to be the issue?”

He explained the pain in his hand, and I gently examined it. “It’s just a minor strain,” I concluded. “You’ll need to exercise your hand and take these medications.” As I handed him the prescription, he leaned forward slightly, his grin widening.

“Thanks. You’re not just talented, but also stunning. Maybe I’ll ‘accidentally’ injure myself again soon.” A laugh escaped me before I could stop it. “I’ll make sure to prescribe you a healthy dose of self-care instead.”

“You’re tough. I like that,” he said, leaning back casually. A moment of silence passed before I blurted, “So, you and Taehyung... just friends?” His expression softened, a glimmer of nostalgia flashing in his eyes. “We’re like brothers. We don’t always show it, but we love each other to death.”

“That’s sweet,” I replied, genuinely touched. He smiled, leaning closer as if to share a secret. “We’ve been through thick and thin. Shared secrets, fought together... and survived each other’s cooking.”

I laughed at the last part. “Sounds like an unbreakable bond.”

“It is,” he said, his expression growing serious. “Taehyung’s more than just a friend; he’s family.” I found myself drawn to his easygoing nature. Before I knew it, the words spilled out of me. “I guess I like you.”

His face contorted in mock horror. “Wait, are you going to cheat on your fiancé?” I burst into laughter. “No, no! I mean, as a friend. I don’t really have male friends, so...”

His playful grin softened into something genuine. “Count me in, then. I’ll be your first male friend.”

“Thanks, Jimin,” I said, feeling oddly comforted by his words. “That means a lot.”

“Anytime, Millie. Now, let’s make a pact: no more running into each other in awkward situations.” I chuckled. “Deal.” As the moment lightened, I decided to ask, “Well, can I ask you something?”

“You can ask me anything, sweetheart,” he replied, his flirtatious tone returning. I shook my head at his antics. “Is Taehyung always... grumpy, rude, and cold?”

His expression changed, a shadow of something unspoken passing over his features. “No, he wasn’t always like that. He used to be the funny guy. Didn’t talk much, but when he did, it was hilarious. It’s just... since Ava’s—”

Before he could finish, his phone rang, breaking the moment. He glanced at the screen and sighed. “Sorry, I need to take this.”

“It’s okay,” I said, watching him step away. As I returned to my charts, my mind raced with unanswered questions.

What happened with Ava? Was it because of the broken engagement?

I shook my head, dismissing the thoughts. I had enough to focus on with my own life – including a wedding just days away.

That evening, I settled into the living room, greeted by Emi’s radiant smile.

“Hey, Millie!” she said cheerfully. “Hey! Where’s Hannah?” I asked, glancing around.

“She’s running a bit behind,” Emi explained. “She’s having some dad-daughter bonding time. You know how it is.” I chuckled, picturing their heartwarming dynamic. As we chatted, Emi’s expression shifted to something more serious.

“You know,” she began, “I want to revolutionize our company’s approach. Bring innovation and sustainability to the forefront.” I smiled, admiration filling my chest. “You’re going to shatter glass ceilings, Emi. Your dad’s legacy is in capable hands.”

Just then, Jungkook strolled into the room, his signature playful smirk in place. “Hey, CEO-in-training,” he teased, “think you can handle the throne?”

“I’ll not only handle it, but I’ll redefine it,” Emi shot back confidently. “We’ll see about that,” Jungkook quipped before leaving with a teasing smirk. As soon as he was out of sight, Emi mimicked his swagger, and I burst into laughter.

“You’re unstoppable, Emi,” I said through giggles. Her grin faltered for a moment before she replied, “Someone has to keep him on his toes.” Hannah arrived shortly after, apologizing for the delay. Emi welcomed her with a warm hug.

“No worries, Han,” Emi said. “We were just discussing world domination.”

“Sounds like I missed the memo,” Hannah joked, plopping down beside us. The conversation shifted, Emi’s eyes sparkling mischievously as she said, “Only two days left until the big day, Millie! Are you ready to tie the knot and leave your freedom behind?”

Hannah smirked. “I still can’t believe Mingyu’s finally tying you down.” Emi added, “And we thought you’d never settle for someone so... reserved.”

I shot them a warning glance, but their teasing smiles only widened. “Seriously, Millie,” Emi said, her tone softening. “We just want you happy. We’ve had our doubts about Mingyu, but...”

Hannah finished the thought. “If he makes you smile, we’ll learn to love him too – for your sake.” I smiled, touched by their sincerity. “You guys are the best. Your approval means everything.”

“We just want your happiness,” Emi said, her voice full of emotion. “And if Mingyu’s the one, we’ll support you all the way,” Hannah added.

“Thanks, guys,” I said, my heart full. “Your love and support mean the world. I know he’s not perfect, but he’s perfect for me.” Hannah and Emi exchanged a look before wrapping me in a tight embrace.

“We love you, Millie,” Emi said. “And we’ll love Mingyu too – because he’s yours,” Hannah added.

In that moment, I knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, I had the best support system anyone could ask for.
