It was your typical night as a superhero. Juniper had been tracking down the latest super villains, teaming up with Ray and Henry, who were currently bickering. She rolled her eyes, still in defense and alert mode as she checked the alleyway they were in. The boys were bickering about how Henry wanted to learn to fly the Man Copter, a helicopter Ray had. But Ray kept telling him no. This arguing went on for awhile, with how Henry thought he was ready and wanted to learn, but Ray told him he wasn't old enough and didn't have enough experience. Henry shot back that he was old enough to fight villains alongside him not and had been doing so for years, so why couldn't he learn to fly?
Juniper couldn't help but smirk at the boys' antics. They were like brothers, bickering and bantering with each other. Sometimes it was annoying and she wished they would stop, but sometimes it was entertaining to watch. This time, she wasn't entertained. They were on a mission and she would rather not have them bickering while there were potentially dangerous villains nearby. Having enough of their arguing, she flicked the back of their heads, startling them out of their argument.
"Guys, can you two shut up for just one minute? We have a mission to focus on here!"
Ray rubs the back of his head, shooting Juniper a mock glare. "Ow! What was that for?"
"Yeah, what's your problem?" Henry added, feigning indignation.
Juniper crosses her arms, shooting them both a pointed look. "My problem is that while you two are busy arguing about flying lessons, we might miss the chance to catch the villains before they make their move. Remember? The whole reason we came out here tonight?" She glares at the two. "Not only are you guys acting like children, but you're putting yourself, me, and the entire city in danger by not focusing. Now, if you're done with your little spat, can we please get back to the task at hand?"
Ray and Henry were surprised by her sudden outburst, she didn't normally snap like this. It took a lot to get her angry, and right now, she was pissed. Juniper hardly ever lost her cool, but when she did, the boys knew they better be careful. And right now, she was definitely losing her cool. The boys stared at her with wide eyes, both looking scared and sheepish.
"Sorry." They both apologized, not wanting to make her any angrier.
"We'll focus, I promise." Henry added quickly, glancing over at Ray, who gave a curt nod. The two exchanged a brief, silent agreement to drop the argument for now, both clearly understanding that they had pushed Juniper's patience to its limit.
Juniper sighs, rolling her eyes at their sudden cooperation. "Good. Now let's get back to the mission, yeah?" She gave them each a firm nod, then took the lead as they moved further down the alley, scanning the area for any sign of the villains they were tracking.
As they walked, the familiar banter returned, but this time, it was lighter and less distracting. Henry occasionally sneaked glances at Juniper, he couldn't help it. He had to admit, it was kind of attractive to see her so assertive, taking control of the situation with such confidence. Juniper always seemed so composed, even when she was annoyed. Henry admired that about her—it was as if nothing fazed her, and she could handle anything thrown her way. It was a quality he found both comforting and, if he was being honest with himself, incredibly attractive.
