"the weather's quite nice today, considering it's october already" jungwon remarked, looking up at the clear blue sky.

"yeah, and it's not too hot either." sunoo agreed, turning over to the younger male.

their eyes met, igniting a bright smile on both their faces.

"It's nice having someone to go out the house with" sunoo softly said. "glad i don't have to beg sunghoon or ni-ki now."

"i mean they're fun, right?" jungwon chuckled.

"my brother and my cousin. what a totally not pathetic way to spend my weekends with and make them miss out on time with their own friends." sunoo said with a roll of his eyes.

"okay that does sound a little silly when you put it that way." jungwon responded. "but why didn't you make other friends? you have such a great personality."

"not everyone is as nice as you, jungwon. and i was known as the sick kid, no one wanted to catch my germs or whatever."

"as people who are in school, shouldn't they be more educated or mature?"

"unfortunately not. they're braindead. so who did you hang out with before you came here?"

"well... i never really went out without my mom being there, and jake had his own friends."

"oh wait, how come he wasn't homeschooled?"

jungwon hesitated before giving an answer. "we were given a choice whether to do it or not, and he decided not to"

"not gonna lie, i wish i was homeschooled." sunoo confessed. "that way i wouldn't have had to deal with the bullying."

"then we never would've met" jungwon quietly said.

"you're right. sunghoon and jake are friends though, they probably would've introduced us."

"true, but things would still be different."

the two enjoyed the comfortable silence, listening to the soft wind whisper through the trees they were sitting under, and watching the grass dance in the breeze.

"do your parents like me?" jungwon asked, catching the elder a little off guard.

"yes, they do. as a matter of fact, they're very grateful for you."

"that's good to hear"

"what about your parents, do they like me?"

jungwon discreetly looked down. "well actually... they don't know about you. the only thing they're interested in is what insult to shoot at each other next."

"to be honest, i don't understand parents like that. if they hate each other, why don't they just ignore each other and pay attention to their kids instead."

"i wonder that all the time. i'm pretty sure my mom actually loves me and jake, but once she catches a glimpse of my father, she turns into a whole new person. it's a good thing he never stays very long. pretty sure he hates me anyway."

"don't think that, i'm sure no parent can hate their child."

"he hasn't spoken to me ever since i was five. and that was because he wanted me to tell my mom she's a bitch or something"

"oh..."

"okay, enough about my parents. what was your life like before we met?"

"possibly a living hell, social wise. and for my health too i guess. you know what a brat seon is"

"yeah, i always wonder what that guy's deal is. has he ever been taught to respect people?"

"apparently not. i just wish i had the guts to like kick him in the balls or something."

jungwon laughed. "that would make you just like him, wouldn't it?"

"i guess so. that's why i'm glad i met you! you're quite literally the first person who ever defended me, you know."

"really? no one else ever let out a single peep?"

"nope, they're either scared of him or with him. mostly with him, though. I thought we already went over the fact that these people are lacking the sense of humanity."

"you're right, i should stop expecting any good from them." jungwon sighed. "so, do you wanna go for a walk or something?"

"sure, why not" sunoo agreed.

the two boys folded the picnic blanket they sat on, and cleaned up the snacks they barely ate.

"hyung look, a cat!" jungwon exclaimed, pointing at a small feline walking along a patch of grass in the distance.

"aww cute." sunoo replied. "do you like cats?"

"mhm, i've always wanted one, but i'm allergic." he slightly frowned.

"that's sad. maybe you'll grow out of it one day"

they packed up and began walking along the quiet trail filled with wild roses and daisies; the only sounds being chirps coming from the finches frolicking up in the trees, and their soft voices conversing with one another.
