many months had passed since they first met, time flying all the way to february. their friendship had gotten so deep that they considered each other as family, and told each other practically every single thing. the two stuck to each other like glue, just them against the world. it mentally killed them every time they had to be separated.
there they sat (together obviously), actually being able to talk to other classmates. there were rarely people who didn't avoid them like they had the spanish flu, so they were quite ecstatic when a couple of classmates decided to interact with them.
however, undeniably, people were still a little weird around them.
"so, are you two like, dating or something?" someone asked.
"what, no!" sunoo retorted, raising an eyebrow. "why would you think that?"
"i dunno, you two are always together." they shrugged. "and y'all don't hang with anyone else."
"you call that a reason?" sunoo chided. "it's not that we don't want to be friends with other people, it's the fact that no one wants to be with us!"
"well someone said y'all were." they said.
"oh my gosh these people" sunoo sighed.
"so um... midterms are happening soon!" jungwon changed the topic.
"ugh, i hate midterms. i hate tests in general." they groaned.
"now that, we can relate on." sunoo agreed.
right as their peaceful conversation was doing well, someone came to disturb them.
"well well, i see the couple has finally come out of their shell." seon snickered.
"what the fuck, seon. so it was you who's spreading rumours?" sunoo said, his voice full of vexation.
"they can't be rumours if they're true!" seon sneered.
"they're fake, ergo the fact that they're rumours!" sunoo exclaimed, annoyed.
"well one thing's for sure is that you're whiny as fuck!" seon rolled his eyes.
"can you just leave him alone?" jungwon stepped up. "don't you have anything better to do besides torment him?"
"ooh look here, his boyfriend's coming up to defend him~~" he mocked.
"shut the fuck up seon. why do you keep doing this, are you just jealous that you don't have any real friends?" jungwon snapped.
"what do you mean no real friends, the whole grade admires me! you've just never experienced it since you and your boyfriend are too scared to socialize or whatever."
"you really are braindead, aren't you? what even entitles you to say these ridiculous things? do you not know that no one cares or wants you to talk to them? and stop calling me boyfriend, no one's gonna fall for your lies."
"ooh, the boyfriend's getting mad!""..do everyone a favour and fuck off-"
"what's going on?" a sudden dictating voice appeared.
"mr. j-jeong!..." jungwon stuttered, sweat beads suddenly rolling down his forehead.
"what did you think you were saying?" he interrogated, raising an intimidating eyebrow
"i, um..." jungwon's voice trailed off
"seon was bothering us, he was just defending me!" sunoo quickly advocated.
"hmm i see. but this type of language is prohibited during school hours, and certainly won't get by in my classroom." he reminded
"for the record, teach, i didn't use any harsh language at all!" seon piped up.
"quit lying, you started it. and you called us whiny as..." sunoo said, mouthing a certain word.
"okay. seon, jungwon. the two of you will be seeing me after class, and will most certainly be receiving detention!" mr. jeong decided. "and i want no complaints. you got me?"
"yes..." they mumbled.

"hey jungwon, i'm really sorry for getting you into this mess today" sunoo apologized as he followed jungwon to the detention room.
"it's not your fault. seon's just annoying." jungwon assured.
"but he was targeting me! and all you were doing was trying to get him away from us."
"i chose to defend you. i'm okay with any punishment as long as seon gets it too."
"but it should've been me. he only started tormenting you because he saw you with me."
"and i chose to stay with you. all i want is to be with you, i don't care about those people." jungwon said, giving sunoo a gentle pat on the back.
the two soon found themselves in front of the room jungwon was about to silently sit in for the next hour, with actual bullies.
"see you tomorrow, hyung" jungwon said right before entering.
"thanks again, stay safe~" sunoo quietly replied, waving his hand.
despite the reassurance jungwon provided, his heart was still heavy, full of guilt. the fact that there were people who were very much likely to end up in jail in the same room as that small, kind boy who just wanted to stand up for his friend was very unsettling. jungwon also had to lie to his parents about where he was; not that they would've cared anyways. this incident probably left a mark on his permanent record, and gosh, sunoo felt like he was the reason for his best friend's future being ruined.
as soon as the one hour mark hit, sunoo opened his phone to message jungwon. however, he was already beaten to it.
"hyung, i could tell you were still worried for me, but don't be, since everything's okay. i told the teacher in charge the whole story, and they decided to not include this on my permanent record. none of what happened caused any damage, so don't worry yoi~"
seeing that, it made sunoo feel a little better. a small smile escaped his lips as he replied to the best friend he could ever ask for.
