Meanwhile, Sarai, Abram's wife, couldn't have kids but had an Egyptian maid named Hagar. Sarai's like, "Check it, God's blocked me from having kids. Sleep with my maid; maybe we can have a family through her." Abram agreed. So, after ten years in Canaan, Sarai gives Hagar to Abram as a secondary wife. Abram and Hagar hook up, she gets pregnant, and suddenly Sarai's on her bad side. Sarai blames Abram, "This is on you! My maid's dissing me 'cause she's pregnant. God will judge between us."

Abram's like, "Your maid, your problem." Sarai then makes Hagar's life miserable, so she bails.

An angel finds Hagar near a desert spring and is like, "Where you from and where you going?" She's like, "Running from Sarai." The angel tells her, "Go back, submit to Sarai. I'll make your descendants too many to count." And adds, "You're pregnant with a son. Name him Ishmael, 'cause God heard your struggles. He's gonna be a wild one, always clashing with everyone."

Ishmael will live in defiance, always in the mix with his fam.

Hagar names God "The God Who Sees Me," amazed she's seen by God and lived. That's why the well's called "Beer Lahai Roi," between Kadesh and Bered.

Hagar has Abram's son, and Abram names him Ishmael. Abram was 86 when Ishmael was born.
