Sarah lived to the ripe old age of 127 years. That's how long she rocked this world. She passed away in Kirjatharba, that's Hebron in Canaan. Abraham showed up to pay his respects and shed some tears for her.
After his moment with Sarah, Abraham stood up and hit up the Heth boys, like, "Listen, I'm basically a nomad crashing you guys. Hook me up with some real estate for a grave, so I can lay my wife to rest and not have to see her like this."
The Heth squad was like, "Speak on it, Abraham. Listen up, chief: you're VIP around here. Pick any of our top-notch graves, and it's yours. No one's gonna hold back their personal graveyard from you. Go ahead, bury your wife."
Abraham got up and showed some respect to the locals, giving them a bow. Then he's like, "If you're really down with me burying my dead out of sight, do me a solid and talk to Ephron, Zohar's kid, for me. Ask him to sell me the Machpelah cave he owns at the edge of his field. I'll pay fair market price, and it'll be my family's private cemetery."
Now, Ephron was chilling there with the Heth crowd, and he's like to Abraham, in front of the whole town gate crew, "Nah, man, listen: I'm giving you the field and the cave in it, right in front of everyone here. It's yours. Go ahead and bury your wife."
Abraham showed his thanks again with a bow to the people. He turns to Ephron, with everyone listening, "Dude, really, I insist. Let me pay you for the field. Name your price, and I'll bury my wife there."
Ephron hits back, "My dude. Listen, the land's worth 400 shekels of silver, but what's that between you and me? Go ahead, bury Sarah." Abraham was like, "Deal," and handed over the 400 shekels of silver, Ephron's asking price, right there in front of everyone.
So, Ephron's field in Machpelah, by Mamre, the field, the cave, and all the trees got officially transferred to Abraham as his property in front of all the Heth locals. Everyone at the city gate witnessed Abraham securing the deal for the burial site. Then Abraham laid Sarah to rest in the cave of the field at Machpelah, near Mamre, aka Hebron, in Canaan. That field and the cave in it were locked down as Abraham's family grave, all thanks to the Heth peeps.
