Every choice is deliberate. Even those things we attribute to fate they, too, were decided at some point. Reconciliation, after all, is a choice, even if made in the direst of situations, especially when the stakes involve the people we love.

Jules opened the door, her anger and confusion tightly compressed beneath a calm facade. Sky was there, sitting expectantly at her table, awaiting her arrival.

"Do you need something, Sir Sky?" Jules asked, her voice edged with frustration.

Sky looked at her, a flicker of concern passing over his face. "What's the matter with you?" he asked standing up, trying to understand.

"It's nothing," she replied in a clipped, upset tone that betrayed her emotions

"It's nothing," she replied in a clipped, upset tone that betrayed her emotions.

"That means there's definitely something," Sky observed, crossing his arms.

Jules frowned. "And how would you know that?" she asked, skeptical.

"I'm that type of person," he replied without hesitation. "How could I not know what it's like?"

A slight smile crept onto her face. "Well then, since you summoned me here, get on with it. I'd like to return to work."

Sky sighed, choosing not to press her further. "The trade," he started. But before he could continue, she interrupted him.

"Nope," Jules said, catching him off guard. She watched as surprise flashed across Sky's face. "What's the matter with you?" he repeated, clearly puzzled. "You ignored my texts, didn't answer my calls, and didn't even like my Facebook post! Now, you're refusing me?"

"Nothing's wrong," Jules insisted, but her demeanor gave away her inner turmoil.

Sky took a different tack, lightening his tone. "There's this great grilled chicken place. Join me, and we can get back to work at my place."

Jules shook her head, her resistance unyielding. "I'm not going. I already promised my parents I'd have dinner with them tonight."

Sky chuckled, trying to charm her back. "People don't normally reject me, you know."

"Then I'll be the first," she replied, her tone dripping with sarcasm. She turned to leave, tossing him a final smirk before stepping out, leaving Sky in stunned silence.

Later that evening, Jules sat on the sit-out, immersed in her work. Her thoughts were momentarily interrupted by Noah's arrival, arms laden with food. He greeted her parents, exchanging warm pleasantries, then approached her with a friendly smile.

"Hey, Mon," he said, taking a seat beside her. "How's everything?"

"Fine," she replied shortly, still processing the day

"Fine," she replied shortly, still processing the day.

"Don't you have to take a break? You just got home," he asked, his tone tentative.

Jules looked up, a faint smile tugging at her lips. "You don't need to be so formal with me, Noah. I'm still Mon, your friend."

After a pause, Noah added quietly, "Uncle mentioned you stayed over at Sir Sky's last night?"

"Yes, we were finishing up some work," she replied, brushing off his curiosity.

A teasing smile appeared on his face as he dared to ask, "Do you... like Sir Sky?"

Jules laughed it off. "You know I've always liked him; you should already know that."

"No, I mean..are you two together?" Noah pressed, his question catching her off guard.

"Of course not! That's absurd!" Jules exclaimed, but her reaction felt almost defensive.

Noah leaned back, his voice gentler. "You know, idolizing someone and falling for them aren't the same. I'm asking because I care. I want to be a good friend to you, Mon."

Jules softened. "I know, Noah, but it's ridiculous. Sky and I aren't.."

"Why would it be wrong if you were?" he cut in. "If you like him, maybe you should listen to what your heart's telling you."

Jules fell silent, his words lingering in the air. She had no ready response, only questions.

Noah watched her, a quiet reassurance in his tone. "Trust yourself, Mon. You're clever, and you always know what's right for you."

Breaking the tension, he glanced at the cookies on the table, grinning. "Now, mind if I snag a few of these?"

Jules handed him the plate with a small laugh, grateful for his humor as she drifted back into thought, contemplating the path forward.
