Sky Chandler, a powerful CEO, first captured Jules Parker's heart in high school with kindness and charisma. Jules idolizes Sky, but when their paths cross again years later in the unforgiving corporate world, the hero of Jules' past becomes a guard...
The evening wrapped itself around Sky's apartment in a quiet solitude. He paced restlessly, phone in hand, eyes wandering out the window as his thoughts returned to Jules—their last conversation had left him in knots.
"How to make up with your girlfriend? "He typed hurriedly into his phone, hoping for some instant answer. Google's suggestion glowed on his screen: Treat her with food. He smirked, tried calling her again, but the call went unanswered.
Determined, Sky's eyes brightened as an idea sparked to life. He clapped, turning on the lights as if switching on his own plan. Placing his phone on a tripod, he angled it up and began his antics, mumbling funny love spells and exaggerated gestures. Satisfied with his spontaneous display, he sent it over to Jules, hoping it might nudge a smile from her.
Miles away, Jules was feeding her cat Shiro when her phone chimed. Seeing the video, her mouth curved into a reluctant grin, entertained by Sky's adorable effort. But her phone buzzed again with his call. Ignoring it once more, she waited—half-expecting him to give up, half-hoping he wouldn't.
"Mon, pick up the call, or I'm coming over!" he texted, playfully but with a hint of genuine urgency. Barely amused, she called back immediately, knowing Sky well enough to realize he meant it. "Hello?"
"Mon, why are you mad at me?" Sky asked right away, with a mix of confusion and concern.
Jules sighed, bracing herself, "You patched things up with Jim, didn't you?"
"Yeah, I apologized," he replied, surprised by her tone. "Why?"
"You never told me," she said, the slight ache of resentment slipping through. "You don't need to tell me everything, right?" She added, trying to sound nonchalant.
"Are we...fighting?" Sky's brow furrowed in confusion.
"Maybe," she murmured, voice edged with sarcasm. Finally, she blurted out, "I'm upset because you kissed Jim." Her voice was sharp, cutting to the heart of her frustration. "It's silly to feel this way, I know."
Sky took a breath, the understanding settling in. "I get it, Mon. I know exactly how that feels. Remember when Jim tried to kiss you at the party? I felt the same."

Jules paused, caught off guard. "You did?"
Sky shrugged, though she couldn't see it. "It's different with you. I never felt this way about Kade or Tee...they've done much worse in front of me, and it never mattered. But with you...it's different."
"Then, what are we, Sky?" she asked, her voice carrying a note of hope, and maybe fear.
Sky faltered, considering her words. "I don't think we're just friends, Jules. There's an age gap, and...it's just not like any friendship I've had before."
Frustrated, she began pacing. "Can you just say it, Sky? You're taking forever."
"Why are you so annoyed?" he asked, half-serious, half-joking. "Is it that time of the month or something?"
With an eye roll, she exhaled sharply. "Maybe you should just ask me to be your servant, Sky," she muttered with exasperation.
He laughed nervously, trying to recover, "I mean...I meant attendant! My grandma calls them servants..."
"Good night, Sky," Jules said, exasperated.
"Wait, Mon, don't hang up!" he pleaded, his voice softening. "I'm...I'm sorry for kissing Jim. I didn't realize it would upset you. Let's make up?"
She exhaled, finally letting the tension slip away. "Okay...let's make up."
Sky felt a surge of relief, whispering to himself, "Guess this actually worked..."
"Hmm? What worked?" she asked, catching his murmur.
"Nothing," he replied, grinning to himself. "I promise, Jules, no more kissing other people." He held his hand to his heart, pledging his word.
"Alright, I forgive you," she teased, her voice warm. "Good night, Sky."
"Sweet dreams," he replied, as they both lingered a moment before hanging up. Sky lay back on his bed, staring at the ceiling, his thoughts drifting to her. And as he closed his eyes, a sense of peace filled the room, washing away the tension of the day.
