Hiding From Your Past

      I woke up and found that Rocky was not inside the room.  I figured he was out smoking so didn't think much of it.  I was startled by the sudden opening and closing of the door.  Rocky looked like he had seen a ghost.  I asked him "Are you okay Rocky?  You look like you have seen a ghost."  Rocky rubs his hand down his face then gives me a small smile.  He just shrugged his shoulders and said "I am just tired."  I took him at his word but I don't know him enough to know if he is telling me the truth.  I walked over to the door thinking about walking outside for a minute for fresh air.  I had my hand on the door knob when Rocky stopped me.  He pulled me away from the door then ask "Where are you going?"  I am shocked but answer "I was just going to step outside for a minute for some air."  Rocky let go of my arm then said "Man, I don't think you need to leave Bea right now.  I mean if she wakes up and you are not here she might be scared."  I mean he is right.  I decided to just go wash my face and then fix me some hot tea.  I looked back at Rocky and noticed he was pacing in front of the door.  

     I decided to just let it go.  I made my tea then did some research on children's cancer.  I need to know all that I can if she is really sick like they think.  The more I read the more scared I became.   I can't believe we will have to wait a week to two weeks before we even know if she had cancer.  I hear Bea calling me "Unc Tim."  My poor baby woke up and if feeling rough.  I go in and give her plenty of butterfly kisses.  She is looking really tired and pale.  I get out a book and hand her back her Teddy Bear.  She hugs it up to her as she lays there listening to the story.  We then watched funny videos on my phone.  She loves the ones with animals.  I didn't see Rocky for the rest of the afternoon.  I went to look for him around six to see what we were going to do about dinner.  I knocked on his door and he finally opened it.  He looked rough.  Something happened earlier to him but I know he will probably not tell me.  I asked him about dinner and he told me there is a place close by where we could grab something.  I tell him that if he didn't mind I could go get us food.  He handed over the keys without much conversation.  I went to checked on Bea who was asleep again.  I let Rocky know she is asleep and I left the door open so he can hear her if she wakes up.

     I was glad when Tim came in saying he would go grab dinner.  I just did not want to take a chance running into my sister.  I walked in to check on Bea and she was snuggled up to her bear.  She is so small curled up on her bed.  I went back to sit and watch TV while I waited on Tim.  I am so ready to get out of here and get back home.  I could go the rest of my life without seeing my sister Briana.  I heard someone at the door and knew it was Tim trying to get in with the food.  I opened the door to help him.  He handed me a bag then ran back out to grab our drinks.  I stood by the door and was careful to look around for Briana.   I saw Tim shut the door and as he turned to come back he dropped the keys.  I was shocked when I saw my very own sister pick them up and hand them to him.  She was carrying on a conversation for a few seconds with him.  I stood there frozen, no please no.  She turned to see where he was going and I step out of sight.  I saw the moment her eyes went wide.  Did she recognize me?  As soon as Tim got inside I asked "What did that girl say to you?"  Tim stood there saying nothing, not a damn word.  He is pissing me off.  I grabbed him by the front of his shirt and asked him again "What did she say to you?"  Tim started shaking in fear.  I know I am acting like a complete ass but I am freaking out here.  Tim finally says "NNNNothing she she uh she uh wanted to help me.  She handed the keys and made a joke about needing more than two hands sometimes."  I let him go then went into my room to calm down.
