Zatariel Wov
His Pov
(January 2014)
Cheap perfume, stale cigarettes, and desperation filled the air at Morning Star Casino.
The clinking chips, rolling dice, and raucous laughter were a symphony of greed and despair.
I felt overwhelmed by the pulsating lights and the relentless hum of the slot machines as I pushed through the crowd.
My gaze locked onto Kyliah across the room.
She stood at a poker table, dealing cards with a detached expression."Zat," she said, her voice a low murmur as she met my gaze. "Follow me."
She turned and walked away from the table, disappearing into the labyrinthine corridors of the casino.
I followed, my steps echoing in the silence of the deserted hallways. The noise of the casino faded behind me, replaced by the hushed whispers of secrets and the faint scent of cleaning supplies.
We reached a heavy, solid door at the end of the corridor.
Kyliah opened it, revealing a dimly lit room.Inside, Mr. Hamilton, the man who had stolen my mother's future, sprawled on a plush sofa, surrounded by six women.
His hand was buried in the cleavage of one of the women, while the others giggled and stroked his wrinkled, leathery skin.
The sight of him filled me with hatred."I don't remember if I ordered a young male for tonight?" He asked Kyliah, his voice raspy and laced with a hint of amusement. He glanced at me, his eyes narrowed with a predatory gleam.
"He's your challenger for tonight, Mr. Hamilton," Kyliah said, her voice calm, controlled.
"A kid!?" He scoffed, his gaze lingering on me with a mixture of lust and disdain.
"Tsk."He was looking at me with a lust that made my skin crawl.
I knew the reason he always won - he cheated.
But I wasn't going to be his next victim.I smirked, a cold, calculating smile that mirrored the darkness in my heart.
I faced him, my gaze unwavering, and grinned.
"I challenge you, Mr. Hamilton. If you win, you can have this."I reached into my pocket and pulled out my mother's Goddess Tear Diamond pendant.
It was a stunning piece of jewelry, a reminder of my mother's love and the pain of her past.
I had no intention of giving it to him.
His eyes widened, his pupils dilating as he took in the pendant's brilliance. He reached out a trembling hand, his fingers fumbling as he inspected it.
He confirmed its authenticity, his face contorting with a mixture of greed and disbelief. It was one of the top five most expensive pendants in the world.
I had won it in a high-stakes poker game in Ruzia, a game where I had faced down a ruthless opponent and emerged victorious. I had given it to my mother as a gift, a symbol of my love and respect.
He carefully placed the pendant on the table, his hands shaking uncontrollably.
"It's real, so it's impossible for you to have it," Mr. Hamilton scoffed, his voice laced with disbelief.
He was a man who believed in the power of money, and the thought of someone possessing such a valuable pendant was beyond his comprehension.
I ignored his question, my focus unwavering.
"If I win," I said, my voice calm and steady,
"You cancel your deal with Mr. Verra."His eyebrows shot up in surprise.
"You can have her, After though" he laughed, a harsh, grating sound that echoed in the small room.
"All I want is to pop her little cherry, then you can hav-"I cut him off, my hand shooting out to grab his arm.
My fingers tightened around his wrist, my grip firm but controlled. A faint buzzing sound emanated from my watch, a subtle signal that I had activated a hidden feature.
"I hacked your devices a long time ago," I said, my voice low and menacing.
"I bypassed your network security using a zero-day exploit and gained access to your server logs. The self-destruct chip in your watch is now active. It's linked to your personal data vault, and it's programmed to wipe your entire digital footprint in one minute. You have one minute to decide, or..."
I smirked, a cold, calculating smile that sent a shiver down his spine.Mr. Hamilton's face blanched. His eyes darted around the room, searching for an escape. He stammered,
"What... what do you mean?"
"Don't play dumb with me," I said, my grip tightening on his wrist.
I leaned closer, my voice a whisper.
"You know exactly what I mean, Mr. Hamilton. You've been playing a dangerous game, and now it's time to pay the price."Mr. Hamilton's eyes widened in panic.
"How... how did you find out?""It doesn't matter how," I said, my voice was cold.
"What matters is that I know. And I'm not going to let you get away with it. And I'm not afraid of you."
He fell silent, his face contorted with fear and desperation. He knew I was serious. He knew I was in control.Flashback
A few weeks earlier, in the bustling corridors of Wayne Academy.
"I'm telling you, Zat, these watches are dangerous," Jay said, his voice laced with concern.
"They're not just timepieces. They're weapons."Jay, my tech genius friend, was tinkering on the watch, attached on my wrist, his brow furrowed in concentration.
"Zat. I've been analyzing the code. There's a hidden chip, a self-destruct mechanism. It's undetectable, but I'm working on a way to bypass it.""We need to do something, help me Jay" I said.
Jay nodded, his eyes gleaming with determination.
"Don't worry, Riel. I've got a plan."
Back to the present.I knew Jay had been working tirelessly to find a way to disable the self-destruct chips.
He had been studying the code, searching for vulnerabilities, and finally, he had found a way to exploit a loophole in the system.
He had delicately removed the chip from my watch, bypassing the security protocols, and then transferred it into Mr. Hamilton's watch.
Now, the power was in my hands.
