Lee Hee-won always knew she was going to die sooner than everyone else.

That was her reality. A conclusion she was condemned with from birth. She had worn tubes up her nose, needles in her veins and a warm light above her heart which clothed her well before any cute outfit her father had spent months picking out in ardent.

Hee-won knew she was going to die; she just didn't know when.

Hee-won was terrified of the idea of love, of commitment. It was a thought that had kept her up many hours into the night and sometimes hurt a lot worse than the painful erratic thumping in her chest. I mean, who was willing to commit to a girl running on borrowed time. Where each beat in her heart was one note away from terminality. A girl who at any time could drop dead- in the street, at work, in the bedroom, in her lover's arms. The idea of love didn't come easy to her, not when she grew up with fragmented pieces of affection until it crumbled into nothing at all. For how can one love if they have never been loved at all.
