The gentle rhythmic beeping of the monitor roused her from unconsciousness. The sterile smell, the burning florescent lights blinded her even through her eyelids. It was all too familiar.  Everything so bright, so still and so sluggish.

Her side flamed as she tried to pry her eyes open, immediately shutting it when the lights seemed to sting her pupils. She blinked the dried tears that lined her corners and creaked them open ever so slightly.

"You're awake"

Her head rolled to her shoulder, her tired eyes focusing on the young nurse smiling down at her. Behind her, the pale walls hidden behind the dull blue curtains highlighted her blush pink scrubs which hugged her body the way she hugged her clipboard to her chest.

A dull pain shot through her head and she let out a low groan which caught the nurse's attention.

"Refrain from moving, your side is still healing" the nurse said, her gentle hands guiding her into a more comfortable position. "Would you like some water?" she asked and Hee-won could barely stomach a nod as the nurse held the cup sweetly as her cracked lips drank it up like a parched animal.

"You've been out for a while" the nurse said, placing the glass onto the bedside table. "But you woke up earlier than expected, you should be free to go in a few hours as long as you monitor that" she said, pointing to the bandage at her side.

"What happened?" Hee-won croaked, her throat scratching.

" You were stabbed but you got lucky. The knife missed your vital organs so it should heal relatively quickly, however" her voice trailed and Hee-won knew that look. She knew it too well, a mixture of pity and apprehension. A look she despised. .
