He was floating on a bed of wild roses, dahlias and poppies. A kaleidoscope of pinks, purples, yellows and greens crushed beneath his heel with one step over the next. There was a field, a flower field, lined with trees like canopy's and the sky as clear as glass.
Hae-jo's slow waltz had taken him deeper into this fairytale. It was beautiful, from the way the flowers danced at his ankles, to the low whistle of the wind that strum a melody in his ears. The clouds twirled into shapes, some recognisable, others not so much.
He felt lighter, like air. Nothing hurt. Hae-jo chuckled, lifting his hand to brush a few petals along the way. There was something liberating in the vastness, something happy in the way the scent of the earth blurred his senses. He felt free. Free of torment, guilt and pain.
He continued his stroll endlessly through the green, taking in the buzz of the bees and the way certain colours on petals popped beneath golden streams. He had taken another step when he noticed a figure stood still in the horizon.
It was a woman, fair in complexion with long hair waving across her lower back. She wasn't facing him, but he had stared at her long enough to recognise her from anywhere.
''Hee-won?" her name carried like a chime, bouncing off the trees and echoing through the beaks of nearby birds. She remained unmoving, her knee length white dress billowing graciously in the air.
He called her name again, with a grin this time and took more eager steps to clear the distance separating them. His feet carried him, one after the other, not daring to glance down at the trampled flowers in his wake as he urged his feet to move faster. Her small figure grew until his fingers were a spoonful away. He curled his hand around her wrist, tugging her gently to spin her around and face him.
