The morning sunlight streamed through the thin curtains, casting a soft glow across the room. Freen stirred first, blinking against the brightness. She felt a warmth pressed against her side and glanced down to see Becky still nestled against her, her face serene in sleep. On the other side of the room, Jisoo let out a little yawn but remained asleep, her tiny hand clutching her stuffed toy.
Freen couldn’t help but smile. It was a sight she never thought she’d get to wake up to. For a moment, she let herself soak in the tranquility, a stark contrast to the chaos that had marked their past.
But the peace was short-lived.
Becky groaned softly, turning over and burying her face in Freen’s shoulder. “Babe, close the curtains,” she mumbled, her voice heavy with sleep. “It’s too bright.”
Freen chuckled softly. “Good morning to you too, bb.”
“Mmm,” Becky hummed in response, refusing to move. Freen gently shifted her arm, making Becky groan in protest as she got up to pull the curtains closed.
As Freen crossed the room, she heard the soft stirrings of Jisoo. The little girl blinked up at her mother, her sleepy eyes lighting up with recognition. “Mama,” Jisoo said in her tiny voice, reaching out.
“Good morning, little one,” Freen whispered, lifting her daughter from the crib. Jisoo giggled, clutching at Freen’s shirt as she held her close. Freen pressed a kiss to her daughter’s forehead before turning back toward the bed.
Becky was now sitting up, her hair a disheveled mess, blinking sleepily at Freen and Jisoo. “She’s such a morning person,” Becky muttered, rubbing her eyes.
“Unlike her mama,” Freen teased, bouncing Jisoo lightly on her hip. “Come on, bb. Get up. We’ve got breakfast to make.”
Becky groaned again but finally swung her legs off the bed. “Fine. But you’re making the coffee,” she declared.
“Deal,” Freen replied with a grin.
The three of them made their way to the kitchen, Jisoo perched on Freen’s hip while Becky stumbled along, still half-asleep. Freen busied herself preparing coffee and pancakes, the smell of fresh batter and brewing coffee filling the air. Becky sat at the kitchen table, her chin propped on her hand, watching Freen with a small smile.
“You know,” Becky said softly, “this feels... nice. Like we’re a real family.”
Freen glanced back at her, her heart swelling. “That’s because we are, bb. We always have been.”
Becky’s smile widened, her eyes glistening with unspoken emotion. “Thank you, Phi. For taking me back.”
Freen turned back to the stove, hiding the tears threatening to fall. “No, bb. Thank you for still considering being with me, no matter how big of an douchebag I have been. There are no words to explain how sorry I am and how much I regret everything I did. But I promise you. I will use this whole lifetime to make it up to you. I promise that I will never let you go this time. I will never let what's in front of slip off of my sight. I was so blind before not to see that what I have never thought I needed was right there in front of me. You were have always been with me.”
Becky was already crying at this point. Moving forward to wrap her arms around the woman she loved for as long as she remembers. She felt the sincerity in the older's words. She knows that whatever happened before should now be buried in the past because what they have now is more than enough - at least for her. She never imagined that the love she always wanted would be within her reach. How lucky can she be?
Though they have been through so much misunderstandings and wrong decisions, what's important is that they always come back to each other's arms. And that this time, they'll make it right.
