They go to the mirror above the fireplace and Barbara picks up a plastic horse on the mantle. In the mirror, only the horse produces a reflection, but not them. "There's that. And there's that", said Barbara. There is now a book on the table that reads 'The Handbook for the Recently Deceased.' "The Handbook for the Recently Diseased", said Adam. "Deceased", said Barbara who correcting his husband. "Deceased", said Adam. "I don't know where it came from. Look at the publisher", said Barbara. Adam checks inside the book for the publisher. "Handbook for the Recently Deceased Press", said Adam. "You know what? I don't think we survived the crash", said Barbara.
They're in the bedroom, knowing that they're now dead. "I hate this. Just -- Can you give me the basics?", asked Barbara. "This book isn't arranged that way. What do you wanna know?", enquired Adam. "Well, why did you disappear when you stepped off the porch? Are we halfway to heaven, are we halfway to hell? And how long is this gonna last?," asked Barbara. "I don't see anything about heaven or hell. This book reads like stereo instructions. Listen to this", said Adam as he reads a page to Barbara. "Geographical and temporal perimeters. Functional perimeters vary from manifestation to manifestation." As soon as he close the book as he about to replied, "This is gonna take some time".
Meanwhile, deep down underground from the house is the main character of the story. The one they call Beetlejuice is reading the newspaper. "Damn sandworms. Thirteen percent, huh? Well, I better find a job. Let's see. Business section", said Beetlejucie as he flips to the obituaries. "Ooh-la-la, what have we got here? The Maitlands. Cute couple. Look nice and stupid, too." As he laugh heartily looking at the newspaper.
