INTERN
"Coffee?" A guy wearing a white coat, a stethoscope draped around his neck, judging from his stance, I concluded he's a Doctor. Plus, there's an MD after his name.
A Doctor? For real? Parang bente pa lang s'ya ah? Ang bata naman ata para maging Doctor, pwede ba yon? Bakit naman hindi?
"Uhm, good morning, Doc. Yes, I'm having a coffee" Isn't it obvious? Like, hello, I'm holding a cup with a Starbucks logo in it right now! Who would have thought I'm having a meal! Well, this could be served as my meal.
"Yes, Dockie!" I froze after I heard someone behind me! A guy wearing a blue scrub, holding a patient chart and a coffee on his other hand. It looks like they know each other because I can sense the intimacy in the both of them.
"Oh, intern?" The guy asked me! Lupa kainin mo na ako, paano ba 'to, nakakahiya! 'Di ko alam paano s'ya e-address, nurse ba s'ya rito or ano? Siya pala ang tinanong!
"Good morning po, yes po I'm an intern." The doctor smirked after hearing my answer. Did he hear me a while ago? Yes! He heard me, why would he smirk if he didn't? He's teasing me! Bakit pa kasi ako sumagot?
Then I excused myself dahil sa kahihiyan!
First day ko pa lang sa pagiging intern ko, kahihiyan agad nag-welcome sa akin! Pero okay na rin 'yon, kaysa naman award ka-agad matatanggap ko. Kadalasan pa naman sa mga nababasa kong stories, pinapahirapan nila ang mga intern.
"Good morning po" I greeted every hospital's employees that I encountered. Naneto, walang kataposang good mornings, hirap talaga kapag people pleaser ka. Pero basic human decency naman 'yon, diba? Pati "good mornings" pri-no-problema ko pa. Siraulo ba ako?
"Good morning, intern ka rin?" Someone asked me. Judging from her question, I think she's also an intern.
"Hi. Yes, Sydney Rory Alvarez nga pala. Sid na lang for short" Offering my hand.
She smiled as she accepted my hand "Hi Sid, I'm Ava Leah Santos, Ava or Leah na lang, pwede rin baby" And her laughter echoed in the hospital's lobby!
I laughed awkwardly, siraulo 'ba 'tong tao na to? Bakit 'di seryoso ang mga tao ngayon?
As I withdrew my hand, that doctor I met earlier interrupted us! "This is not a place for your chika minute, interns. Be professional" his words weighting superiority! Oh my goodness! Nakakahiya number 2!
"Sorry Doc, and good morning" sagot ni Ava, then the doctor walked away!
Niyugyog ako ni Ava at bigla na lang siyang pumikit na parang kinikilig! Naneto, parang tanga! "Kita mo ba 'yon?" she asked "ang alin?" Nagugulohan kong tanong.
"Siya lang naman si Doctor Nathan Klyde Adamnelle! The only son of Ada Hospital owner, he topped the PLE last year and started to work dito sa hospital nila, he is also part of the boards since his family wanted him to practise their family's business, you know, business minds? Kahit bata pa, pri-na-practice na nila, okay din 'yon para sa future namin" she sighed like she's shouldering the whole world.
Assuming ampota, but in fairness, para siyang baliw HAHAHA parang magkakasundo pa ata kami ng babaeng ito.
"At" she trailed off, "balita ko single pa s'ya, kaya prinay ko talaga na matanggap ako rito para masulat na ang prologue ng love story namin" she giggled!
"Okay, work na tayo" sagot ko na lang dahil baka scotch tape-an ko pa ang bibig ng babaeng ito, ang daldal!
"See you when I see you na lang, Sid. Sa lawak ng hospital na 'to impossibleng magkita tayo, nursing ako eh, ikaw ba?" Tanong n'ya habang chi-ni-check ang wristwatch n'ya.
"Nursing Intern din" Sagot ko. Sana same kami ng area para naman 'di ako ma-o-op since parang ang dali niyang pakisamahan, ako lang din kasi ang Nursing Intern na galing sa school namin. Pahirapan din kasi sa hospital na 'to makapasok bilang intern. Sa school nga namin anim lang kami ang nakuha, at ako lang ang Nursing.
